A detached 200-year-old stone and slate barn. Converted in 2005 and set in its own walled courtyard with spectacular views of West Dorset AONB. Consciously low-tech so you can enjoy time with one another. No light or noise pollution. The perfect rural retreat. Bookings during school holidays must be Friday to Friday unless last minute. Fern Down Farm DorsetEscape. The barn is spacious and light, with an open plan mezzanine-floored design & vaulted wooden-beamed ceilings. The accommodation is flexible - part of the barn can be shut off so as 1-4 guests may have a cosier rental. Sleeps up to a total of 10 in 2 double mezzanine bedrooms & one ground floor twin room all with ensuite bath/shower rooms & the use of two double futons in separate sitting rooms. There is a large open plan living room with kitchen/dining area, a large log burning stove & opening picture window with stunning views. Full gas central heating, cot, highchair, DVD, TV, books, local maps, radio, fridge, freezer, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, magimix, electric hob and oven. Electricity, heating, water, bedding, towels, loo paper & basket of logs are inclusive.

Peaceful. Good facilities, heating good and David showed us the controls which in new places for is a puzzle. Wood fire is great. Very clear and helpful guidance on surrounding places to visit. Offered to take us on a tractor ride but our short stay precluded it. Worth visiting again especially with children b
We had a wonderful stay at David and Sarah's house. It is located in a beautiful spot with rolling vales and dales - very much far away from the madding crowd ! The accomodation was really spacious and well laid out, a converted barn with bags of character. To top it all there were some extremely friendly farm dogs who were always keen to say hello to us and our spaniel Henry. David is an academic and produces some wonderful detailed maps of the surrounding area so we speculate that one string to his bow may be Geography. We were made to feel very welcome and we could quite happily have stayed longer ! We will be back ! Oh and PS - if you like fish and shellfish check out the Hive Beach Cafe in West Quay - yum yum !
Had a great stay at Dorset Escape with my family over Easter weekend. The barn house is cosy, comfortable and well equipped. David is friendly and gave us a nice tour of his beautiful farm. Highly recommend staying here.

We spent this past weekend here celebrating my husband’s and my son’s birthdays and loved every minute of it. The house was comfortable and we really liked its rustic charm. The kitchen was well equipped, and there was plenty of hot water. David couldn’t have been friendlier, he was a great host and we’ll happily come back to stay again. We’ve even been recommending it to our friends and family.

An area filled with history and lots of fun family days out. Maiden Castle, Corfe Castle, The Tank Museum, Monkey World, Tutankhamen Museum, etc.
Removed enough from other tourists that you can enjoy the peace & quiet of your own space on our beautiful farm.
Expect no light or noise pollution and a true back to nature experience.
Free private off-road parking.
Closest train station is Maiden Newton. Other stations Yeovil Junction, Dorchester, Yeovil Pen Mill, and Crewkerne are also within 30 minutes.
