Enjoy a relaxing retreat on a historic, riverfront property on a gorgeous nature preserve tucked away in the Blue Ridge Mountains! Located 15 minutes from VT, you’ll feel like you’re in another world. Our historic property was once a whistle stop for the railroad & has acres of riverfront and forest to enjoy! You will enjoy a cozy cottage on the north fork of the Roanoke River. There are 3 bedrooms, a fully stocked kitchen, a tv room, a separate living room/office with a desk and books, a full bath, and a lovely front porch where you can enjoy the view and sounds of the river and Mother Nature. Our historic property dates back centuries. It was once a whistle stop for the railroad that still runs through it (Don’t worry! They don’t blow the train whistle!) and operated as a mill, general store, cannery, post office, and more. The land is adjacent to Falls Ridge Nature Preserve, situated on the North Fork of the Roanoke River. here are multiple hiking trails, caves, and waterfalls to enjoy. Dogs are not allowed inside the Preserve but there are plenty of other trails for them on the property. And there is the river you can fish and wade and when the water is high enough, swim (and very occasionally kayak). (Ask us about our boogie board water hike in the summer!) (Please note: the Nature Conservancy has temporarily closed Falls Ridge Nature Preserve for regrowth and repair after an extended period of high visitation and overuse during Covid. Check their website for latest info). We are fifteen minutes from Blacksburg or Christiansburg. We are thirty minutes from the Appalachian Trail and Virginia's Triple Crown (McAfee's Knob, Dragon's Tooth, and Tinker Cliffs) as well as The Cascades and Jefferson National Forest. We are 10 minutes off I-81. We offer a variety of additional services. We can rent you hiking or river gear, picnics, birthday or romantic surprises, rides to trailheads or VT football games, and more. Just ask! We also create VT tailgating packages, s'mores kits, Appalachian Trail slackpacking adventures, river excursions and just about anything else you may want for an additional fee. Just ask! RV'ers: please note we have a small bridge that may be challenging for larger sizes. Moving vans and UPS trucks cross it no problem but longer vehicles may not want to consider. You will hear the train come through a few times per day. They do not blow the whistle when coming through.
