For a peaceful and tranquil leisurely day on or off the water, Newton Creek is a charming narrow tidal inlet on the River Yealm, perfect for exploring the area. At low tide a causeway allows an opportunity for walking across the creek to neighbouring Noss Mayo, and both villages are connected by road and in close proximity for walking or cycling.
Nearby is Warren Point, a very beautiful stretch of coastline with circular walking routes taking you along the coast and through ancient woodland.
The unspoilt Mothecombe Beach is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. Sheltered and ideal for bathing, Mothecombe is a private beach, but is open to the public on Wednesdays and at weekends. Children will delight at discovering the inhabitants of its rock pools, so don't forget to take a bucket!
Wembury Beach (owned by the National Trust) is 1.93 miles away and has its own Marine Centre, so you can learn all about the importance of marine conservation.
Ideal for ball games (due to it's large expanse of flat sand when the tide is out), and perfect for swimming and snorkelling Bovisand Beach is a sheltered sandy bay with cliffs either side, ever popular with families. On a clear day you can see across to Plymouth Sound.
For another really interesting day out why not step back in time with a walk around The Plymouth Mayflower Museum and discover what life in Plymouth was like for merchants, sailors and pirates in 1620. The Museum explores the story of the voyage of the Pilgrims and their journey aboard the Mayflower to the New World.
