I'm an avid traveler and great guest who enjoys staying in nice accommodations, but this was the opposite of that experience. The host seemed welcoming at first, unless you clearly have critiques of the listing. When I experienced several issues finding the unit inhabitable or decent, Hanret never replied to my concerns, and then ultimately penalized me for leaving early to find lodging much more suitable to my needs and took my money for a 5-week reservation that I didn't stay in for more than a week due to the poor and declining state of the interior. It was the opposite of tasteful and a "home away from home" experience as advertised. I messaged the host requesting a very private and independent booking, but she failed to inform me that the unit was one of several on the property and the other units were filled with the host’s friends, family, and staff - which was not private, nor safe for COVID-19 transmission. The listing mentions it has the amenities of heating and air conditioning, which were not in fact there and presents safety risks for those requiring better temperature control, especially if you are disabled or have medical conditions. The only air condition unit was for the attic space and it was broken, so I couldn’t occupy that space during my stay. Jozi weather can be temperamental, esp in the spring. The rest of the stay I contracted a cold as the only heating included small older electric panels in the living space and bedroom that did not suffice to keep the space safely temperature regulated. The pictures of the unit were older and misleading. It’s evident when entering the space that furniture like the couch were worn and the carpet in the bedroom hadn’t been cleaned in who knows how long. Appliances were broken like the toaster. I have a dog and cat dander allergy but there was no indication until I arrived that there were pets roaming freely around the property and a good amount of pet dander in the unit that got on my luggage and clothes. Water and insects seeped through the front door a lot and it rained for most of the week that I was there. The backyard space is somewhat redeeming, but I was very uncomfortable throughout my whole stay, which sucks during the pandemic when you can't visit many places and are stuck inside for either work or just a large part of the day. Did not get a great value at all, and worse - had to deal with a negligent host who stole lodging fees for a month-long reservation that I stayed just a few days in. Easily worst AirBnB experience to date. A lot must change in the pandemic contrary to prior reviews, and also pictures can never amount to how you experience a space fully until you're there and locked in without adequate support - a scam.
