The Cambrian Mountains are one of the few remote areas left in southern Britain, and Tregaron lies close to this open wilderness. Although there are only a few roadways across the mountains they are acknowledged as some of the most scenic routes in Britain, where walkers and cyclists can revel in the peaceful solitude. Historic Tregaron is a ‘Walkers are Welcome’ town, and the annual Walking Festival held in May is a firm favourite on the events calendar. Competitors and visitors come from all over the UK and Ireland for the annual horse trotting and carriage racing too. It is also the home to the Welsh Gold Centre, selling Celtic inspired designs. The town is small and full of independent shops, and on the square, you can find an award-winning pub/restaurant, as well as a wood carving depicting Twm Siôn Cati, the legendary 17th-century ‘Robin Hood of Wales’ who is said to have used his wit and bravery to outsmart gentry and crooks alike. Cors Caron, or ‘Tregaron Bog’ as it is also known, is the largest raised bog in Britain and lies just outside the town. It is a peat bog of international importance and a nature reserve since 1955. It provides a habitat to very rare flora and fauna and is fantastic for wildlife spotting, including buzzards, peregrine falcons, harriers and iconic red kites. The beautiful Ceredigion coastline can be reached within a 30-minute drive and offers lovely beaches and interesting towns and villages to visit. The university town of Aberystwyth has a historic castle, promenade and pier, plus it is home to one of Wales’s most picturesque steam train journeys through the valley over to Devil’s Bridge. Georgian harbour town Aberaeron, and the quaint fishing town of New Quay are also great areas to visit. Beach 14½ miles. Can comfortably fit up to 6 people
Fantastic stay, stunning views and a really beautiful home. It was comfy, clean and spacious everything we could have asked for. The hot tub was so much fun we was in it every night even in the rain and the sounds around us of wilderness was amazing. The WiFi was good and the log burner was extremely good! We loved all watching a film on the smart tv in front of the fire all cozy. Hosts were lovely. Beds and bedding were excellent, the work gone into the property is amazing. 100% would stay again.
Truly beautiful spot. The cottage was warm, welcoming and had everything you needed for a peaceful break. The hosts were lovely and nothing was too much trouble for them. We had a lovely week exploring the area and hope to visit again soon. 5*
Amazing views from a beautiful and cosy cottage. Could not of asked for a cleaner or more comfortable place. Would love to visit again
Had an amazing week away. cottage was well equipped with everything we needed and was clean and tidy. we really enjoyed the hot tub and the amazing views.
Fabulous cottage … everything you need there and with awesome views. Was very quiet and off the beaten track, although about 5 mins away from the nearby village of Tregaron. You have to drive out to get to places as not a lot in Tregaron. The hosts were brilliant.. very friendly and helpful. We were able to ring them up with any queries and they were more than helpful. We would love to go back and stay at Yr Hen Beudy. It has a relaxing hot tub which is very clean and very well looked after . We used it every night even in the rain…..Was fantastic! All in all we had a brilliant week here. The only thing we couldn’t change was the weather. However , the rain did not spoil our time away.
