Wir hatten eine schöne zeit in der wohnung, sie ist komfortabel, gemütlich und äußerst gut gelegen. Die kommunikation war sehr gut und hilfreich. Wir kommen gern wieder!
We really relaxed in our week in Bad Schandau. You can easily walk from the apartment or use the tram and go up the hill. All public transport in the local area was included in the price, and was very easy to use. Very comfortable and peaceful apartment and we all felt very comfortable. Would be very happy to come back again!
The Kirnitzschtalbahn is the most popular attraction in Bad Schandau and has inspired us from the start. This is an old tram route that was put into operation in 1898 and is still running today. It connects Bad Schandau to the beautiful Kirnitzsch Valley, stopping at eight different stops and hiking trails along the way. Finally, the final stop is at the Lichtenhain waterfall.
Historical passenger elevator
Let's start with our personal highlight: the historic passenger elevator in Bad Schandau. It was built on the edge of a cliff in 1904 and still carries many passengers 50 meters up. Once at the top, a brilliant view of Bad Schandau, the Elbe and the surrounding hills awaits you. Since the elevator is made of glass, you can already enjoy the great panorama during the ride!
Tuscany thermal baths in Bad Schandau
Would you like to cool off? No problem! In the hot summer as well as in the cool winter you can have a good time in the Tuscany thermal baths in Bad Schandau. The large complex is divided into the following areas:
Outdoor pool with loungers and a view of the Elbe
Indoor area with several pools (+ children's pool)
Sauna world with six different saunas
Elbe promenade
A walk along the Elbe promenade in Bad Schandau is really idyllic. The small pedestrian path runs directly along the water, is 2.7 kilometers long and starts at the Elbe bridge.
While walking along the Elbe, we not only had a great view of the surrounding nature of Saxon Switzerland, but also of individual sights in Bad Schandau such as the historic passenger elevator and St. Johannis Church.
Tip: The Elbe promenade is particularly romantic during sunset! The setting sun not only bathes the river.
The spa park
Another great sight in Bad Schandau is the extremely cozy and long spa park, which can be reached within a few steps from the St. Johannis Church. It was built in 1873 before it got a new coat of paint in 1994 and was completely reworked and renovated.
After a long day of hiking, it is the perfect place to stretch out your feet on a blanket, have a bite to eat and watch the narrow river "Kirnitzsch" meanwhile. It flows through the middle of the park and always attracts hikers who want to do something good for their feet in the cool water.
Outdoor pools are located in Rathewalde, Stadt Wehlen and Cunnersdorf. When the weather is nice and the water level is normal, swimming across the Elbe is also an experience. Or how about paddling or rowing?
You can experience a completely different kind of boat trip on a historic paddle steamer that is over 100 years old. The pier is about 300 m away from us. When the weather is bad, the Dr.-Petzold-Bad in Sebnitz, the Tuscany Therme in Bad Schandau or the Geibelbad in Pirna are worth a visit.
Or do you prefer to look at old fortresses - then Königstein Fortress, the largest preserved fortress in Europe, would certainly be something for you. Or Stolpen Castle, where events often take place. Another castle worth seeing is Hohnstein Castle with restaurants and events; in Stadt Wehlen there is a ruined castle.
You should not miss Pirna, a romantic small town with narrow streets and beautiful shops as well as various events.
