The earthen yurts were exactly what we were hoping for. The seclusion of the Green Mountains right in the back of the property, the cozy and comfortable home, and the time spent with family was how we wanted to spend our week away from it all. Tasseli was responsive to all of our questions and had many great recommendations for things to do in the area. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Again, I am torn. I have stayed at Tasseli's yurts 3 times now in the past 18 months. My wife and I love it! I don't want to say all the good things we feel about the place as I don't want it to become so popular it will be hard for us to book back in. That said, I will say, the yurts themselves are inspired architecture--with the round design, skylight in the center, and roofbeams spoking out in all directions. There is something so comforting and nourishing about the spaces, literally like nests of some highly intelligent species. The property backs up against a moutain range in the heart of the green mountains of vermont. Wild forested slopes with rocky streams and blue blue skies. The inside of the yurts are decorated simply and beautifully. It is open, sunny, with views out the east, south, and west. Lovely.
The yurts were awesome!! A little tricky to get to in mud / snow season, but worth it :) very cozy!
The yurts were a truly memorable experience for our family! It was our home away from home for the beginning of the winter and a great place to use as a ski house, situated almost halfway between Sugarbush and Killington, but also a lovely private retreat outside the hubbub of either resort. We absolutely adore Rochester, and were able to explore almost all of Tasseli's recommendations, which were excellent! Thank you so much for the memories. We are already missing the cozy feel of waking up at the yurts on snowy Vermont mornings!
Nestled in the foothills of the Green Mountain National Forest and a half hour from Sugarbush!
Abundant hiking, mountain biking, stargazing, and wildlife-watching at your doorstep. In the snowy months, back-country sledding, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing are also at the doorstep.
Robert Frost wrote much of his poetry in these mountains, and his cabin is a scenic, 22-min drive away. (Navigate to "Robert Frost Wayside" for the trailhead and follow the gravel drive, National Forest Road 396, away from Rte 125 until you see the cabin on your left.)
A half hour drive gets you to the slopes of the world-class Sugarbush Resort or the Middlebury College Snow Bowl, a well kept (low cost) secret for skiiers and boarders and home of the national champion ski team.
Head to nearby Rikert Nordic Center for top-notch cross-country ski lessons and miles of maintained cross-country ski trails through the National Forest.
Two beautiful modest-sized waterfalls, Moss Glen Falls and Warren Falls are also within a 20-ish minute drive.
The 25-acre mountain property is accessed by a long (~2/10 mile), upward sloping driveway. 4WD is strongly recommended in winter and spring. There's ample parking directly adjacent to the main yurt.
Plowing is provided in winter, but guests must be prepared to walk on/through snow to access the yurts (or use the onsite shovel if you prefer).
