Hello friends! I am so happy that you have chosen the Pacific Northwest as a travel destination. Whether you are here for work or play, you will find the area full of interesting, diverse, and outdoorsy people...and there is SO MUCH TO DO!!! We have been hosting and using AirBnB when we travel since June 2014. What a wonderful experience we have had! The most amazing people passed through our door in Louisville, each with their own story to tell. And, now that we are in Washington we are looking forward to more of the same. Why are we out in Washington? We own and manage a private rose collection of mostly rare, imported roses, the Anne Belovich Collection. We are committed to restoring the property to its former charm and continuing the legacy of Anne, a sailor, world adventurer, author, teacher, and rosarian. Rick is adding a second greenhouse that will house his Indiana citrus trees and extend our growing season. I am working to free the roses from the vicious blackberries vines, build the soil, clean up the beds, and identify the roses. We both have a long list on our to do lists, but much progress has been made. We hope to open the private gardens next summer to the general public by appointment. While the prime time for roses is in late June, there are some blooms until the first frost. Peaches, pears, blackberries and plums are the late August and September crops. The apples will be ready in October, ready for you to pick. During the winter we will have the wood fire going. This is when I get out the spinning wheel, work on fiber projects, and plan for next year's garden. It is also my favorite time of the year to get out and hike area trails, such as those in the Pilchuck Tree Farm which is just around the corner from us. The entrance offers an amazing view of Mt. Rainier, the Olympics, the Cascades, and the neighborhood on clear days. February brings the Snow Geese and Swans and along with it the Stanwood festival. The famous Tulip Festival in Mt. Vernon is in April and it is planting time here on the farm. The cherry trees bloom in May and following there is a succession of vibrant color surprises with daffodils, camellas, rhododendrons, sweet peas, and the roses. Our autumn started later this year (2022) with the rains beginning just last week. I am a science and environmental educator and researcher. My husband is a retired microbiologist and plant "explorer." We love traveling and meeting new people although for now our lives are here on the farm. I am a hiker and have done most of the Appalachian Trail - someday I would like to do the entire AT. My sister and I plan to hike Camino de Santiago when we retire.
