I had an interesting experience staying in Addis for two months with Sima and her German friend Julia. Sima's brother picked me up from the airport and Sima was always available to help me with my daily needs. The neighbourhood looks not so bad, safe and very Ethiopian. =) Of course, I encountered the typical Addis Ababa problems with water, internet and electricity but it wasn't critical and with a local SIM card and VPN it was suitable for my remote work.

I enjoyed a week experiencing Addis like a local from Sima’s apartment. I loved hearing the church service projected through the neighbourhood every morning. The room was clean, with comfy bed and lockable door. There are local grocery shops, bakery and traditional cafes nearby. It’s about 45min walk to the centre or the equivalent of a few dollars in a Feros (Uber)! Sima was away but her brother picked me up and dropped me at the airport, gave me a SIM, helped change money - so kind and helpful! If you want reliable running water, hot showers, reliable wifi etc - then maybe stay elsewhere but if you want to experience true Ethiopian hospitality in a neighbourhood where you won’t see any other travellers, I recommend Sima’s place!

I stayed in the Gedion apartment. He is a wonderful and nice man and the apartment is tidy and clean. It was a beautiful and wonderful stay. I had a lot of fun and I hope to come back to it again.

Wir waren im Februar 2023 für 2 Wochen bei Simegn. Das Balderas Condemium ist perfekt für einen Aufenthalt in Addis Ababa, ruhig und sicher, rundherum gibt es viele kleine Läden und leckere Restaurants. Die Wohnung ist sehr sauber und gut ausgestattet. Was die Wohnung aber zu einer absoluten Empfehlung macht ist Simegn. Gleich am ersten Tag hat sie für uns eine traditionelle Kaffeezeremonie durchgeführt. Simegn ist außerordentlich hilfsbereit. Da sie selbst im Tourismusgewerbe arbeitet, hat sie auch unseren Trip in den Simien-Nationalpark geplant. Wir werden definitiv wieder bei Simegn mieten!
