Barrio Escalante, has been a trendy neighborhood for many years and over time has attracted great restaurants, pubs, bistros, cafes, souvenir shops and other small services. Here you find also Doctors, Hospital, Pharmacies, Spa and other health oriented businesses. Supermarkets are also in walking distance. With streets narrow and many businesses putting up Lightbulbs in trees, the area is called "La Luz". It can be neat just to strolling around. Perhaps try out Artisan Beer at a Pub called " Wilkcr ", near Fresh Market, where they have a nice selection of small Breweries, or try out their menu. Their prices are very reasonable.
Bars and Pubs you find in the adjacent Barrio California. The local crowd likes the place "Concha de la Lora". On the other side of Escalante you find the Barrio Dent and Barrio Los Yoses, there you find also many Restaurants. Our favorite is "Juergens" or perhaps take a cafe at Starbucks. The University of Costa Rica is only a few minute walk from your apartment and there you find the Licor Street of San Jose, called " calle de la Amargura".
Only a short distance walk is downtown San Jose where you might want to visit the National Museum or Teatro Nacional San Jose or Teatro Melico Salazar. perhaps check out the National Market or take a time out and enjoy watching people passing by in the "Parque Central" , calle Central Alfredo Volio or check out local shops in the many pedestrian streets.

Beaches in Jaco are about 1.5hrs drive, The Mountains of Santa Ana near Escazu are also worth checking out. Our favorite is the Rescate Wildlife Rescue Center, near Alajuela. You need to make an appointment.
Perhaps take a Day Tour on a Catamaran to "Isla Tortuga" or "Isla del Cano " watching whales .

In front of URBN Escalante is a Bus stop, service is cheap but can be somewhat slow. Most Guests use Uber to get around town. from the airport it is about $11 Dollars. We highly recommend trying out a train ride to the old capital of Costa Rica, located in the Province of Cartago. It is an experience worth taking. The Station is just few blocks from your apartment.
