Villa Ortúzar is one of the neighborhoods into which the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires is subdivided. It is part of Commune 15 and is delimited by the streets La Pampa, Av. Forest, Av. Elcano, Av. del Campo, Avenida Combatientes de Malvinas and Avenida Triunvirato.
Villa Ortúzar, a neighborhood similar to Chacarita, Colegiales, Paternal, Agronomía, and others nearby have the same origin, the “Chacarita de los Colegiales”, place of important events such as the beginning of the defense of the “First English Invasion”.
In 1580 Juan de Garay began to distribute properties (suertes) among the primitive settlers. Starting in 1614, the priests of the Society of Jesus obtained “chácaras” (a word of Quichua origin that means “farmland”) that became known as the Chacarita of the Jesuits.
Until 1895, much of these lands were used by the former Royal College of San Carlos, then Nacional Buenos Aires. Schoolchildren spent their summer holidays there. For this reason the area was renamed Chacarita de los Colegiales. Named by Miguel Cané in his novel Juvenilia.
In 1827 (Rivadavia government) German families arrived and in 1833 (Rosas government) Canarian families arrived. An attempt was made to form a town there, but both attempts were unsuccessful, mainly because the lands were very divided.
In 1862 Santiago Francisco de Ortúzar y Mendiola, a Spaniard born in Ermua, Province of Vizcaya, bought an important fraction of those lands from Santiago Muguerza; Part of them will constitute the neighborhood of Villa Ortúzar. He divided lots, laid out streets, and planted trees with eucalyptus and ombus.
In what is now Plaza 25 de Agosto he built large pigeon lofts that gave the place the name of Palomar de Ortúzar.
In 1888, the “General Acha” school was created on land donated by Don Santiago de Ortúzar, a true benefactor of the neighborhood. His name has since been perpetuated in the city's nomenclature. Don Santiago died at home on December 4, 1897 at the age of 75.
The accommodation can be reached by multiple means of transport.
It is very well located. 20 minutes from the City Center by Subway, Line B "AV. DE LOS INCAS".
