Quirky 2-bed cottage (plus double sofa-bed), part of Edells Estate. Helpful and welcoming hosts, a theatre director and owner of a historic photographic archive. Originally part of a Victorian vicarage it has double height ceilings. Much loved family home, tranquil, dog friendly. Perfect to cook, walk, read, recharge or romance. Divine courtyard with huge stone table for outdoor feasts. Lovely views & the area has Bloomsbury charm. Village pub, farm shop, train station all walking distance. Edells Cottage is well-loved and has quirky details thanks to the excellent Victorian architect who designed it, such as the incredibly high ceiling in the double-aspect sitting room and in the kitchen. We are part of the Edells estate which is adored by the airbnb community and we have long been an occasional "guest wing" for the main house when there are a couple more bedrooms needed. There is a log burner for the cooler months, and a lovely courtyard garden which comes into its own from the first rays of sun in the year (we have blankets and shawls for sitting out when it's dry yet still chilly). The courtyard has a huge stone table for meals, with plenty of seats and two sun-loungers with a small table for al-fresco coffee/drinks. We are surrounded by the stunning gardens of the Edells estate and there is immediate access to the woods, with a footpath that goes up to the village and the nearby pub. The cottage itself is a family home with a well-stocked kitchen with its farm table to seat 6; a neff oven, bosch washing machine, miele dishwasher, Liebherr fridge-freezer, electric kettle and toaster, belfast sink (two); ceramic hob, pots and pans, cafetieres, glasses, cutlery, plates, mugs and cups, bowls, chopping boards, a nutribullet. The master bedroom upstairs has a standard-size and very comfortable double bed and is South facing (with a black out blind for light sleepers!), a daylight lamp, bedside tables and reading lamps, chest of drawers, two occasional chairs, laundry basket. It has a bathroom opposite (bath, loo, sink, towel rail, towel cupboard). The ground floor bedroom has a standard double bed (very comfortable) with hanging cupboards, bedside tables and reading lamps. It has a shower room (with shower, sink and loo) immediately opposite. The house has central heating and is lovely and cosy but it's also good to know that the duvets are warm (wool duvet upstairs; down duvet on the ground floor) and there are extra blankets and throws available, and electric blankets if wanted. The sitting room is a highlight - double aspect (north and south) with very high ceilings, relating to the history of the house when the Edells estate was the local vicarage and the cottage was where the villagers met during Victorian times. There is a squishy sofa, two high-backed arm chairs, reading lights, a small desk for working at - we have very good wifi - and a small double sofa bed, which can be used for 1 extra guest / couple. There is an excellent wood-burning stove and logs are available. The cottage is close to the main house, which is usually - but not always - let at the weekends and the houses were all well designed by the architects to feel very private. Depending on the time of year you may be greeted with a bowl of fresh eggs from our hens, red currants and black currants from our fruit cage, tomatoes from our greenhouse, fresh garden mint or other thoughtful treats from our vegetable garden. We are surrounded by our wider family estate, an old organic dairy farm and you will likely see the herd round and about below the house, as well as very likely to see deer, bats, owls, woodpeckers....
A lovely place to stay and relax for a few days. We brought our dogs and they had an amazing time on daily walks across fields and exploring the forest. We would love to come stay again!
The village is small and delightful with a pretty church, a friendly pub (The Kentish Horse), and an excellent farm shop - all within walking distance. Nearby visitor attractions include Chartwell, Hever, Penshurst Place, Chiddingstone, Eden Valley Museum in Edenbridge, and a bit further afield are Glyndebourne, Charleston, Knole, Standen, Ashdown Forest, Tunbridge Wells.
There are two dedicated parking spaces immediately outside the cottage. The nearest train station is just a couple of minutes by car (lifts can be arranged, please ask) or about a 10 minute walk.
自我介绍
Born and raised on the Kent/Sussex border I have lived in Manchester (University), St Petersburg Russia (for three years), London where I ran a theatre for 6 years then joined the V&A for a couple of years, setting up and running overseas trips for donors, before moving to Kent to help run the family business. I am married to a Romanian theatre director and I occasionally turn up in his plays. I have a full time job, plus a teenager, and I sing with a rather good folk band to balance everything else out. I am, of necessity, very organised. The places we visit most often: Cyprus, Romania, the Hebrides. I am dedicated to comfort and will do everything possible to make your stay in my old stone house in Cyprus a wonderful experience.
