We live in a mountain farming community that has attracted an international assortment of healers, organic farmers, artists, dancers, chocolate makers, qi gong masters etc.. although the majority of the folks are Costa Ricans that farm coffee, cows, beans and veggies. We all live happily and gratefully in this peaceful valley. Los Angeles de Rivas is the most undeveloped of the the 3 little villages that share the entrance to Cerro Chirripo, and we like it that way! You can access the Chirripo trail right from our place; explore the trails and waterfalls in Cloudbridge Reserve; spend some time at the local organic cheese maker and chocolate shop; visit the beautiful Casa Alegria which houses the enormous geodesic dome that is filled with loads of butterflies, serves excellent coffees and handmade gelatos, has yoga and dance classes and a playground for kids. (The dome and cafe will not be open until further notice.) There are warm springs and a small botanical garden; a fantastic bakery that carries wine and local products and serves breakfast and lunch ; a gastropub BATSU that has at least 10 different microbrews, including one made by a neighbor, and offers vegetarian options, great hamburgers, gourmet dinners and music on the weekends. In San Gerardo, there is the Roca Dura Bar, where you can get a pizza and local fare, or lovely Robino's which serves delicious International fare and pizza.
There is an eco-market/health store (Kapi Kapi) in San Gerardo and our foodie neighbors have created take out frozen meals anywhere from Indian curries to enchiladas to Chicken Chili. The Wednesday Farmers market in Chimirol, 10 minutes away, has local organic veggies, homemade kombucha, vegan cheeses, a Tico breakfast, fruits, handmade bowls and souvenirs. There are several bodyworkers in the area, including me.
Yoga classes are offered in a few places also.
Playa Dominical is 1.5 hrs down the road. Nuayaca Falls is 1 hr away.
