The citadel is quite a unique stay! It is an oasis at the foot of the mountains offering a break from the city and a break from standard hotels. My whole family reserved the Citadel through Airbnb and we had the 2nd floor all to ourselves. The rooms are beautifully themed and furnished in addition to having gorgeous views of the mountains. The lower floor was open to us well and was shared with Nadia and her husband Jawed. These are two genuinely amazing people! They offered us so much kindness, energy, and joy! Be sure to request that Nadia make the Moroccan dish of "rfissa" for you and that you engage Jawed in a game of pitanque. For some reason, our GPS signal took us out into the middle of farmland on a long, winding, and wild looking dirt road for some time and we had to turn around and go back to find the main road. The Citadel is off of a short dirt road, but it is not difficult to get to. Not sure why our GPS took us in that direction. The Citadel is in a great location between Marrakech and Ourika Valley. I would highly recommend taking the drive---it is about 1 hour up the mountains to Sidi Fadma where you can sit by/in the river and eat tagines in the cooler weather. You can also do a short (20 minute) hike up to a waterfall. You will not need a guide unless you want to do a longer hike past the main waterfall. Just follow the signs. We hope to find ourselves back at the Citadel in the future. My whole family loved our stay!

The Citadel is truly unique - it is decorated superbly with every touch thought about, the colour scheme sublime and you can feel the history ooze around you. It’s an oasis, a place where you can truly relax or base yourself for any activity surrounding if you’d like. Nadia cooked for us every night with food that could not only feed the masses but satisfied every taste bud of the Moroccan aromas. The rooms were again decorated immaculately with everything your heart desires. Nadia, the host, was a true gem. You can feel her energy and passion for not only Morocco but also her beautiful home. She makes you feel part of her family the moment you step in the front door. We can’t recommend this beautiful experience (and we call it that) enough. Our stay was so peaceful and relaxing and we walked away feeling so refreshed. This is the perfect location to escape the madness of Marrakesh or just to recharge the soul. Thank you again Nadia, we will definitely be back.
