Feels like you're deep in the country in the middle of a Naturalists' Paradise, but still in town and less than a mile from Historic Downtown Square of Woodville.
Walking around Woodville, where the past mingles so smoothly with the present, it is easy to imagine what it was like here in the early days and to evoke memories of some of those who once walked here —
— the world-renowned ornithologist John James Audubon, who taught dancing and fencing here in the 1820's and roamed the nearby woods in search of birds—
— the colorful and controversial Gen. James Wilkinson of Revolutionary War fame, who commanded nearby Fort Adams in 1798 —
— Jefferson Davis, the first and only President of the Confederate states of America, whose family home "Rosemont" still stands nearby —
In more recent years, several notable African-Americans made their home — writer Anne Moody, blues singer Scott Dunbar and classical composer William Grant Still —
Woodville has preserved its original courthouse square, shaded by enormous live oak trees. The courthouse, the third on the site was built in 1903 and designed by noted courthouse architect James Reily Gordon.  
Two of the most historically significant buildings in Woodville are the 1834 former office and banking house of the West Feliciana Railroad,  the first standard gauge railroad in the United States and the 1819 former branch banking house of the Bank of the State of Mississippi.  The bank building is believed to be the oldest banking building in Mississippi.  Both structures have been restored and are owned by the Woodville Civic Club.  
There are several notable early churches here — Woodville Baptist Church (c. 1809), St. Paul's Episcopal Church (c. 1824), Woodville Methodist Church (c. 1824), St. Joseph's Catholic Church (c.1873), and the Allen Chapel, AME Church (c.1895). 
The tiny Beth Israel Cemetery is a vivid reminder of the large Jewish population that flourished here in the early 1900's.  The synagogue is no longer standing.
In the lush woodlands surrounding Woodville, which extend into the fabled Tunica Hills, are numerous back roads that reveal the natural beauty of this region — quiet creeks, old pathways leading to early home sites and forgotten cemeteries, picturesque trails for hiking or driving.
In the Clark Creek Natural Area, site of an early plantation, a rugged trail (NOT for Beginners) leads to a spectacular and rare sight — five waterfalls.
