Loved everything about our stay. We were welcomed with fruits from the property garden. Andrew place will forever have a place in my heart. The place is a beautiful peaceful garden. The house is well kept with very clean bed and bathroom. Everything from the description match what you will get but better when you see the magical property garden.

Andrew’s spacious and nicely decorated house and beautiful gardens is great for those who are using it as a base to explore Blantyre and the surrounds but not very good if you are spending lots of time at home to remote work or do online research due to lack of power lasting 8-14 hours a day (normal in Malawi). For a “luxury” place like this the generator should come on more often rather than a third of the outages). Having said that, Andrew and his family are friendly and helpful and we had a good rest. We are grateful that Andrew received us for an early check-in at 730 am. He took the time to show us how things work. The beds are comfy and if you close the mosquitoes net properly, the mayhem of mozzies (you can hear their high pitch buzz in the house) that arrive between 4-6 pm won’t get into bed. There is a decently equipped kitchen and his sister passed us a baking tin for baking when requested. Everything is clean and he offered room cleaning service on our second night as well. The gardens offer a nice atmosphere and his 5 dogs are friendly and adorable. The family and staff ate friendly. We got tips on hiking in Mulanje. I asked before arrival whether the generator was capable of powering all devices in the house (including fridge) as i needed to complete work and Andrew said yes. He also told me the Wifi speed was 20 mbps. Unfortunately, the generator was only turned on for less than half the power outages. For instance, on Sunday we lost power for 13.5 hours between 7 AM to 830 PM (there is a big power cut in this zone every Sunday till end of Oct 2022 - i was notified of this only on arrival). The generator was on only from 11 AM to 3 PM and then from 630 PM to 830 PM - and this request had to be made/negotiated before the generator was turned on. One of the days i had to sit around in the dark for half an hour waiting to bake the pizza i had made as the generator was only turned on an hour past sunset. Being in Malawi in 6 weeks, we understand that there is huge load shedding due to the damage to one of the power stations. There is also an ongoing fuel crisis. I chose Andrew’s place and paid the premium compared to other places because from our conversation, i thought he would at least provide power for most of the outages and the wifi would be good. Wifi was averaging at 0.19-2 mbps on the speedtests i ran 5 times throughout the stay instead of the 20 mbps that was communicated to me. I had to turn on my hotspot for the more demanding online tasks and actually drained all my own data. Those who need to take work calls or do serious remote work will find this a huge handicap. There was a problem jumpstarting the diesel generator when we arrived, and the petrol generator ran out of petrol, so we waited for a few hours for his staff to queue to get petrol on Monday (power cut from 7 AM and generator got turned on at 1230 pm). There could have been more foresight here - instead of queueing for the petrol when we have an outage, they should have sent the staff to get it before they ran out. Altogether it is a beautiful place, I just wished that the power outage situation was conveyed and managed better. At the campsites we stayed in Malawi, the generator gets turned on by the staff the moment power goes out, and we don’t need to request for it. Hopefully the next guests can have an even better stay!

Great place. Quiet, comfortable with added bonus of a genset for power during regular load shedding. Bedding changed regularly. Washing done. Brilliant hosting, dealing with any issues quickly. Unreserved recommendation.

Andrew's place is wonderful clean and one of the best accommodation I have used in Malawi. It is close to the airport if you require the airport. The hosts are very friendly and were always available when needed and were very helpful with any issues. It is approximately 10 minutes from town however the town is very accessible. All amenities that are listed are available and work very well.
