里斯本 · 整套出租单元 · 0室1床1.0卫 · 可住2人 · Red Studio @ Mouraria | Castle
The Red Studio is located in an 18th century renovated building in the heart of Mouraria, a charming neighborhood in the old Lisbon. The street is called Beco das Flores and sits 5 minutes away from the Castle. It's a small flat but fully equipped. It's an ideal choice for a couple. The apartment stands at the top of a street called Beco das Flores, just 5 minutes away from the Castle and 3 minutes from Baixa/Rossio. It is very luminous, with two windows facing south enjoying direct sunlight and a pleasant view towards the quiet Largo da Achada. The built-in cozy window seats are welcoming for reading or for a cup of tea. The kitchenette has all you need for cooking and eating in, and there's a good supermarket within 3 minute walking distance. (You’ll find a Portuguese cookbook in English on the bookshelf.) Mouraria is also one of the best areas in the city for eating out. Within a 5 minute walk you'll find many options for tasting authentic Portuguese cuisine at very reasonable prices, as well as a surprisingly wide variety of restaurants serving African and Asian traditional food.
A cozy and comfortable studio in a beautiful district. We especially appreciated the warm welcome and local tips. Would absolutely stay here again!
The studio is located in a quiet alleyway in the heart of Lisbon and felt very authentic. The room had everything we needed and was practical and Sofia was incredibly hospitable and kind!
LOCATION
Located between the castle and downtown, it's hard to imagine a better location for your stay in Lisbon.
Beco das Flores is situated on the south edge of Mouraria, away from the more touristy and sophisticated areas of the capital, but with most of the famous squares and sites of interest within walking distance. It's a 3 minute walk to the nearest Metro station, a 5 minute walk to Rossio, a 10 minute walk to the riverfront, a 10 minute walk to Chiado and a 15 minute walk to Bairro Alto, the epicenter of Lisbon nightlife.
Mouraria is also an excellent base for visiting places of interest away from the city centre: it's a 3 minute walk to the tram that takes you to Belém, a 5 minute walk to the train station that can take you to Sintra, and a 20 minute walk to the train station that gives you access to several beaches along the coast towards Cascais.
(Ask me how to get to the best beaches, on the other side of the river, by bicycle and boat.)
BECO DAS FLORES & MOURARIA
The Studios are located on the south edge of Mouraria, in a safe and peaceful area, situated right next to a local cultural centre (Casa da Achada).
Beco das Flores (literally meaning Alley of the Flowers) is a charming and quiet little alley. The perfect location for full nights of rest or peaceful reading.
Just down the stairs of the alley, however, will you be surprised to find one of the liveliest and most fascinating streets of Mouraria - Rua das Farinhas. Always full of locals, neighbors chatting and having a drink, elderly folks resting on their balconies or children playing football, this street is a peek into what it really means to be "lisboeta".
It was in the heart of this medieval neighborhood, inside its maze of cobblestone streets and winding stairs, that Lisbon's unique musical genre was born – Mouraria is the birthplace of Fado.
But Mouraria is also the most multicultural and diverse place in Lisbon. Here you will find the traditional Lisbon along side the African and Asian communities that now define this neighborhood. You're as likely to hear fado music coming from neighboring windows as music from Cabo Verde or Paquistan. This multi-ethnicity goes back to the 12th century. In fact, Mouraria owes its name to the Moorish population that remained on this side of the hill after the conquer of Lisbon in 1147.
GETTING THERE:
Arriving to Beco das Flores from the airport is rather fast and cheap. There is the metro and two direct buses from the airport that will take you there in approximately 40 minutes. If a taxi is your choice, it's 15-20 minute ride. All the details you need will be provided once the booking is confirmed.
SLEEPING
The double bed is a fold-up wall bed, light and easy to open and close. You don't need to remove bed linens nor pillows when you close the bed. But never forget to put the bed feet in place when lowering the bed.
The mattress is 140cm wide and 190cm long (Spanish size double bed).
Blankets and comforter are also provided.
The Red Studio has an extra individual bed (a pouf that converts into a bed). If you need both beds please let me know in advance so I can bring extra bed linen.
All windows have wooden blinds that allow for almost total darkness inside the flat. Closing the door curtains keeps out cold sneaky drafts and also improves the acoustic isolation of the studio.
HEATING/COOLING
The studio has two windows facing south, built in modern aluminum frame with double glass, so temperature and humidity/dryness inside the studio are rather stable and comfortable during all seasons.
During cold season, there will be a good oil heater in the studio. Since it’s a small aparment, room temperature is easy to maintain.
During hot season there will be a fan available in the studio. And there's always ice in the freezer!
Warm and mid-season blankets are available, as well as two edredon/comforter options. The entrance door has thick curtains covering it so that, in the winter, the cold breeze doesn't enter the house through the edges of the irregular two hundred year old door!
PERSONAL CLOTHES: WASHING, DRYING, IRONING
The Red Studio has a washing machine. Detergent and softener are provided. There are racks for drying clothes. An iron and a small ironing board are also provided. Washing and ironing services are available under request.
EATING IN
The kitchenette of both studios is fully equipped for cooking: stove, oven, microwave, fridge with freezer compartment, small blender, coffee maker and kettle, pots and pans, cups and dishes, good knives and cutlery, orange juice maker, tupperwares... We provide basic ingredients like salt, olive oil, sugar, pepper.
A small portable table and two stools are available in case you want to eat outside on a sunny afternoon or a hot summer evening. In this neighbourhood it’s common to see that, especially in the summer.
There's a good supermarket about 200 meters away (closes at 21h00). In front of the church there's a small grocery store that closes later than that. Towards Baixa there are plenty of shops around selling fine Portuguese cheese, enchidos (sausages), wine, etc…
EATING OUT
This is one of the best areas in town for eating out. Within a 5 minute walk, you'll find a wide variety of very good and relatively cheap restaurants of authentic traditional Portuguese cuisine. I can tell you which are the locals' favorites (as well as mine) for eating grilled fish, seafood, grilled meat, traditional Portuguese dishes, vegetarian, or petiscos (Portuguese for tapas) with wine and cheese. The same goes for pastry shops (pastelarias), ice cream shops (gelatarias) and places for a delicious breakfast.
Mouraria is also famous for its many restaurants of world cuisine. Within a 5 minute walk you'll find an impressive variety of restaurants serving homemade authentic cuisine from different corners of the world. You can try traditional dishes from Cabo Verde, Mozambique, São Tomé e Príncipe, Angola, Nepal, Paquistan, India...
