One of Hawaii’s finest ocean view communities is Princeville at Hanalei on Kauai’s north shore. With a backdrop of lush and tropical mountains lined with waterfalls, Princeville sits on the bluffs overlooking the Hanalei Bay and the distant Bali Hai, or Makana Mountain.
Activities in the Princeville area include horseback rides along the mountain range, ziplining, kayaking up the Hanalei River, and a whole variety of fun watersports including great snorkeling. At the end of the road beyond Hanalei is the trail to the renowned Na Pali Coast.
Princeville’s tropical setting and natural beauty is magnificent. Princeville also has a championship golf course. The renown Makai Course just finished a multimillion dollar renovation.
The Princeville Shopping Center offers everything from art galleries and boutiques to groceries and fine dining. Just across from the shopping center is the Hanalei Valley Overlook which provides a great view of the taro patches along the Hanalei River and up into the valley.
In the 1800s, the lands of Princeville were planted with sugarcane and then used for cattle ranching. The area was named Princeville in 1860 to honor of the Crown Prince Albert who visited when he was just two years old along with his parents King Kamehameha IV and Queen Emma.
Whether you are a first time visitor or are coming back to Paradise for yet another trip, you will always find new things to explore.: Maybe you have been all over the world, Kauai just stands apart. Its unique unparalleled, unspoiled natural beauty is like a time machine of carefree, gentler days. It lacks the hustle and bustle of some of the much busier islands of Maui, Hawaii or Oahu. Even the southern part of Kauai has more people in their crowded beaches and hotels.
In the North Shore of Kauai the scenery is quieter, greener, cooler and prettier. There are beaches off short trails everywhere that are secluded and often deserted. There are rivers and rainbows, golf and big wave surfing. Kayaking and SUPs. Hiking and biking (We have 4 quality bikes for you to use in the garage). Swimming, snorkeling, sand castles and splashing. Family beaches with lifeguards. Precarious cliffs with views of blues from both the sky and water. Sunrises, Sunsets, tropical drinks, shaved ice and cold beers. Grill outdoors, conjure up a gourmet meal in the chef's kitchen indoors, or bring in someone to cook for you.
One could have a compact hotel or condo. However, you have made a far better choice to get a beautiful spacious house in a fantastic area. You can stock up on supplies at Costco, Walmart or Target in Lihue after you land. Many other stores and markets to get provisions line the highway on your drive north including a large supermarket right in Princeville.
I want to mention reservations: Whether you are looking for an excursion, tour, a popular restaurant or, even a parking spot at certain State Beaches. Advance reservations where possible are recommended. Some have flexible cancellation policies others not. ( Hāʻena State Park; home to Kēʻē Beach, the trailhead for the Kalalau Trail and Hanakāpīʻai beach & waterfalls, is now subject to daily visitor limits and requires advanced reservations allowed up to 30 days in advance to enter the park).
Take a boat or helicopter to see the famed Nāpali Coast. Go on a fishing charter. Go horseback riding, rent a kayak, surfboard, SUP, jeep or motorcycle. See a Botanical Garden. Explore the jungles, gaze beneath the sea and find secret beaches. Take pictures, do not touch the wildlife, but be amazed by them. On land, in the air, in the water; fauna and flora flourish here on the Garden Isle.

Most people want two cars for flexibility. One should definitely be our 2020 Suburu Forester Sport. We have reserved it exclusively for our guests first to consider. You will find no easier and more affordable rental option.
We've partnered with another local small business to offer an inclusive NO WAIT personal shuttle to get you to car only 1.4 miles away.
ARRIVAL TRANSPORTATION:
Upon your arrival, we'll pick up the authorized driver and one companion at the RIDE SHARE AREA of your assigned baggage claim at Lihu’e Airport. Bring them to The Lot Lihu’e to check in the vehicle (only 4 minutes and 1.4 miles away.) The authorized driver will return curbside for the rest of the “ohana” (family) before your luggage comes off the carousel. No rental lines or intermittent Turo shuttles to wait for.

Here’s some quick information about the area:
To Princeville, head north; usually 45 minutes by car. Local bus service can be quite slow and intermittent. Taxi or holoholo over $125 one-way. Kauai really needs a personal vehicle.
