We are located in a village called Kol. It’s a wooded valley, in the foothills of Himalayas, 16 km west of Rishikesh. The village has a rich flora and fauna and is ideal for nature lovers (including families) looking for a peaceful break from the daily grind of life. All meals and dairy products are organic local produce. We provide 7 bedrooms in two buildings which have been built with wood and stone by the local craftsmen using the centuries old passed down skills of making village homes. We are part of a village called Kol which was a primitive coal producing base for the British Army during the Raj days and hence the name Kol. The rich flora includes broad leaved deciduous forests, riverine vegetation, grasslands and pine forests in the upper reaches. The fauna of the place is blessed with spotted deer, nilgais, wild boars, leopards, langoors and macaques. The woods are a haven for a rich birdlife that includes peafowl, woodpeckers, pheasants, peacocks, cuckoos, hornbills, to name a few. The pitched roofs have been built using the same skills and design that has been used in the villages all over the Himalayas for centuries. The tiles (called Pathaals) are sourced from the old village houses in Himalayas which have fallen into disrepair and have been either abandoned or replaced by new bricks and cement houses. All rooms are en-suite and come with a blend of old and new look and amenities.
The location is absolutely serene, beautiful nature, no automobile sounds. Absolute peace with a beautiful view. Walking in the nature is beautiful! The staff is very polite and kind. However the premises are new and many things are lacking, they informed us that they are still working on things. The beds and pillows are very hard unfortunately, and there is limited comfort there. Only two plastic chairs to enjoy outside. Phone reception is very limited. The food can be prepared by local staff with limited options. There are no restaurants in the vicinity, unless you have a car (but still very limited food spots). I would love to go there again but then I would bring supplies such as food, pillows, wc paper etc. The last part of the road is a dirt road with big rocks, taxi that we hired from the airport had hard times at night. On the road there are no English signs for the village, if that is a concern for you.
it's an amazing property at an amazing location. staff was very friendly and helpful. peaceful stay in the lap of nature. great views. must visit for people who want peace and quite.
The cottage is right in the heart of a sleepy small Kol village. It's a small village surrounded by forest. There is only a handful of families left in the village with most of them migrated to nearby towns and cities. The forest is rich in flora and fauna and significant wild life. It is not unusual to hear and see peacocks squawking every now and then. If you are looking for peace and tranquility, this is the place with plenty of rural activities to keep you engaged as well.
It's less than 25 minutes (10 kms) away from the Dehradun Jolly Grant Airport.and less than 30 minutes from the Rishikesh Railway Station. The place is accessible via own car or we would be happy to arrange the transportation - please contact to discuss the transportation charges. There is free on premise parking.

I love to meet new people and share the insights from our experiences. My favourite destinations for travel would be: Paris Edinburgh Agra (Taj Mahal) Darjeeling Mussoorie My father-in-law who looks after our home in Rishikesh. You are most likely to meet him at our home in Rishikesh. He has decades of experience of tourism industry in Garhwal - a born and bred Rishikeshi (so am I) with lots of knowledge about the area.
