I came to Roanoke twenty five years ago to visit my sister. When I arrived she told me she had to take me to see a cabin on a creek not far from her house. A couple she knew had bought it, renovated it, and lived there part time. Well, for several years I couldn’t get this cabin out of my mind but they said they would never sell. I dreamed about that road, that creek, that cabin. A few years later I decided to move to Roanoke and inquired about that cabin. Still not selling, I asked my sister to drive me out that winding road. lol and behold, there was another cabin for sale. I bought it that night, went back to Canada and packed up. I knew I was going to do some renovations, but had no clue it would take me six months, seven days a week, sometimes five people working with me each day. Friends came to visit from Canada, suggested I remove “A” wall to expose the logs underneath. But I got so excited I removed them all. It is truly been put back together by hand. This is the best place I’ve ever lived, the kind of place I would have liked to raise my boys, like going to camp and never going home, but with all the amenities of home. I’ve lived here now going on seventeen years and decided it was time to share my magical cabin with other artists, other people looking to get away, find a hidden treasure, get in touch with nature and themselves. I’m a mother, a grandmother, a jewelry maker, a writer, a gourmet cook and a pretty good decorator and homemaker. I look forward to stepping away for the weekend and allowing others to bask in this little piece of heaven.
