The kitchen was well-stocked, and the overall feel of the historic home was rustic and welcoming...like you were visiting a casual friend! When we first walked in, it smelled a bit musty, which concerned me because I have asthma; However the smell quickly faded (we did not even notice it after 5-10 minutes), and my asthma did not flare up at all! Everything appeared very clean except the bathroom shower...YIKES - that shower needs to be thoroughly scrubbed down, and it's a shame because the tile work is gorgeous! The adjoining properties were very run-down and full of junk. Justin may have no control over that, but maybe a section of privacy fence to block the worst areas would improve overall impression. The free-ranging goats/chickens and mistreated dog mentioned in other reviews were not there...maybe those tenants have moved out? The yard had goat droppings everywhere - recommend no fancy shoes! Saw a vermilion flycatcher!!! Justin was very responsive, polite and helpful!

The best thing about Justin's casita was its location, just a short drive from the Whitewater Draw wildlife refuge. The home exterior and grounds - including a neighboring casita - were bit more rough-around-the-edges than the photos indicated, but the inside was nice, comfortable, clean and very spacious. Unfortunately we arrived a bit too late in the season to see the Sandhill Cranes, but the location is also an easy hour or so drive from the Chiracaua National Monument, where we enjoyed several beautiful hikes amid the towering rock columns. The location also offers an easy 20-30 minute drive to either of the historic towns of Bisbee and Douglas. -Greg & Cheri

Birders paradise. Our first night a barn owl flew over and perched in a tree at sunset. We watched the sandhill cranes fly over several times a day. There was plenty of bird watching in the yard and you can't get closer (unless you RV) to white water draw. It is an old Adobe house, very quaint and the antique front doors are so cool. We felt very safe and secure during our visit but there is no way to lock the house from the outside when you are away. The beds are comfy but there are no bedroom or bathroom doors, just privacy curtains. Bisbee is 30 minutes away and a fun town to walk around. We had a delicious dinner at the Cooper Pig. We also visited Four Tails Vineyard (make reservations) on our way down which is about 30 minutes North of McNeal. This was a perfect stay for 3 bird nerds.
