I have taken a while to write this because we are so overwhelmed and emotional about the whole wonderful experience. Hannu and Anne-Marie were helpful and concise with their information. They were warm, caring, informative and so gentle with the children. We felt so safe under their instruction and in the knowledge that they were there for us and checked on us every day when the weather was bad. The house is simple, clean and has everything you need. Anything more would be excessive and take space. The woollen slippers were perfect. The views - the views!! And the landscape was the star of the holiday. From a well travelled family (more akin with little more luxury) with two 11 year olds and a 30 year wedding to celebrate - this was our best holiday ever. This is not said lightly. Thank you to you both so very much. And we truly hope to see you again.

Das architektonisch sehr sensibel in die Landschaft ergänzte Holzhaus war genau die richtige Reflexion, um die Natur vollkommen aufnehmen zu können, was im Winter bei - 25° C eine Demonstration der Wildnis war. Wir sind dort nicht geboren wie Hannu, der als Same dort zu Recht wie eben vor der Wohnungstür agierte. Hannu ist der souveräne Vermieter, wie man ihn sich wünscht, umsichtig, bedachtsam, empathisch, extrem gastfreundlich (wenn man seine landestypische Zurückhaltung) überwunden hat. Wir haben in ihm einen wahren Freund gefunden, mit dem wir ohne weiteres in ein Abenteuer gehen würden. Das Haus und das Umfeld hat alles, was wir für das vergnügte und das direkte Überleben brauchten. Wer die Wildnis und das einfache Leben liebt oder dies kennenlernen will, ist hier genau richtig. In der vorletzten Nacht wurden wir noch mit einem unfaßbar schönen Polarlicht über den ganzen Himmel verwöhnt. Ein Traum. Auf der Rückfahrt nach Rovaniemi hat uns die Natur noch die andere Seite gezeigt.

INCROYABLE. J’ai pas d’autres mots. J’ai vécu 2 jours magnifique ici. Aurores boréales, ciel étoilé, paysages à couper le souffle avec de magnifiques lumieres. Le chalet est génial. Si vous cherchez une expérience authentique au beau milieu de la Finlande foncez. Notre hôte a été très clair, très accueillant et super sympathique. Alors merci pour ces 2 jours inoubliables

Our stay at Hillagammi was an amazing experience. To start, we snowshoed in because there was too much snow for 4WD but not enough for snowmobiles. Anne-Marie got us all sorted out with the right gear for the walk. Our bags, food & daughter went ahead with Anne-Marie on a single snowmobile. The cabin was exactly as described, snug and warm even in -20 degrees and gale force gusts of wind on our second day. We saw the aurora on two nights. We tramped around on the first day, which was clear and beautiful. We battened down the hatches, read and watched the weather on the windy second day. Hannu snowmobiled over the evening before the wind started to make sure we had enough wood and water to keep ourselves going. On the final day Anne-Marie arrived back with the snowmobile, collected our gear and our daughter, and Matt & I snowshoed out. I was going to say a once in a lifetime experience but we want to come back, so hopefully not. The only negative thing is we should have stayed longer!
