We stayed for 2 nights at Birch Pod with 2 children and 2 dogs. What a beautiful location, we heard the Cuckoo every day and our dogs enjoyed the walks around. And wonderful dark skies. The pod itself is well set out and our children loved their bunks. Unfortunately, the cafe wasn't open when we stayed - half term week. I would advise getting your groceries en route because the beauty of being in an idyllic setting is that you are 15 mins away from the shops. I'd definitely stay again.

Had a fantastic few days at Birch Lodge. location was fantastic for exploring lots of English Heritage Sites and everything was spotlessly clean. lots of room for the kids and dog to explore and burn off energy amd we were blessed with the weather. we would definitely return. thanks for the lovely warm welcome and departure wave too x

Second stay at Birch Lodge 2. A little less impressed this time... A mini-plague of tiny flies in the lodge, which couldn't be helped and hosts were very responsive and helpful about. The shower was very variable, hot water & cold water so this wasn't ideal. The kids loved the bunk beds (again) and the local countryside is great for walking. The BIG disappointment was the Oaks cafe. It used to do a cooked breakfast. Now only bacon/sausage sarnies, and a few other bits. We waited half an hour for uninspiring defrosted teacakes and reheated sausages/bacon. "We've only got baps, I forgot to get the bread out of the freezer" - quite a mistake when half your menu is sandwiches. As one of only two families in the cafe, it was probably a good thing it wasn't busier as I doubt the cafe could cope. Should have gone to the diner nearby at the cold war museum...! Love the lodge. Just not the same this time.

Just the most gorgeous site - everything was thought of, it was so peaceful and the surrounding area is absolutely stunning. The properties (we stayed across two on site) were spotless, comfortable and well equipped. The on site cafe is fab (lovely staff & quick service) and the grounds are immaculately kept. Kate was really helpful too and so responsive. We are already planning to come back (if she'll have us .. :- )) Thanks so much!
