The pearl of the Adriatic

The hospitality, the meticulous care of its architectural heritage and a growth model that has harmoniously reconciled urban progress and the conscientious respect for nature and the sea, have allowed Grottammare to receive important awards, among which the Blue Flag of Europe, the Three Sails in the Blue Guide of Legambiente published by the Italian Touring Club and the diploma of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy for the Old Incasato.
The beach, which stretches for five kilometers, is bordered by a splendid promenade full of palm trees, orange and oleander, joys of colors and scents. Pedaling serenely along the cycle-pedestrian path that crosses the whole marina of the town, we can walk the Lungomare sud, far from traffic, embellished with decorated fountains and very original roundabouts that stretch out on the beach, to get to the new Lungomare nord which, recently redeveloped, offers a splendid green balcony overlooking the sea.
An outlet and entertainment space for children is represented by the Pineta dei Bersaglieri, which stands before the first concessions, coming from the south. For intense moments of reflection and rest, just lie down on the benches of Kursaal square, in the northern part of the city, the ideal heart of the marina.
The square of about 5000 square meters, paved in travertine, adorned with a satin fountain and pine and palm trees, directly overlooks the beach to merge into Viale Marino, splendid of its kind, where palm trees and porphyry and marble flooring of carrara are the ideal setting for the liberty villas built in the early twentieth century. The avenue continues, then, on the beautiful cycle-pedestrian path that winds between the rocks and the sea and allows you to reach the last beach to the north, a very wide, free and still unspoiled stretch.
Like other settlements of medieval origin, the Grottammare marina is dominated by the Vecchio Incasato clinging to the hill, in recent years it has undergone a meticulous restoration. Among the paved alleys and ancient walls calcined by the sun there are precious monuments such as the Church of S. Agostino and the Church of S. Lucia, the latter built on the house that gave birth to Pope Sixtus V. In Piazza Peretti, the secret heart of the village that opens onto a splendid panoramic porch, you can also admire the Orange Theater and the Church of San Giovanni Battista, home of the Sistino Museum.
Since 2004, the Torrione della Battaglia, a fortification that dates back to the 16th century, has housed a museum that preserves a prestigious collection of works by the Grottammarese sculpture Pericle Fazzini, author of the famous Resurrection in the Sala Nervi in the Vatican.
