With stunning sunset views this yurt offers tranquility in the forest. A salt-water infinity pool is shared by all guests on the property. Due to COVID-19, the hot tub is not open for guest use at this time.
Up to two dogs are welcome with a fee of $20 per night.
If your dates are not available or you have a large group, we have three additional units:
The Sunset Yurt is perched on the edge of a forested ravine with beautiful sunset views. At 200 square feet it is the largest of our three yurts, with a plush queen-sized bed and stylish, cozy design. There is an attached outhouse with a compost toilet and hot and cold running water. Luxurious semi-outdoor showers (shared), are a short walk away. In the winter months the yurt is insulated with a heater and an extra blanket; in the summer there is an electric fan. Outside, there is a handmade picnic table (made from trees on our property) and hang-out area exclusive to guests of the Sunset Yurt.
Cooking facilities include:
* small refrigerator
* drip coffee maker (coffee and tea provided)
* propane grill (propane included)
* 3-burner propane cooktop
* picnic table
Please note that the cooking area is not covered in case of rain.
You can either bring your own cookware, utensils, etc. or you can rent a camping box from us for $35 per stay which includes all you need to cook and serve your own food for two people, including place mats, plates, drinking glasses, mugs, bowls, eating utensils, dish towels, cooking utensils, salt and pepper, fry pan and pot, plus more. Best to reserve in advance to ensure availability.
Our vanishing-edge, salt-water pool (un-heated) features spectacular sunset views and is available for all guests staying on the property from 8am to dusk. The pool is a short walk from the sunset yurt is located below the main house. There are designated pool loungers for each unit that are situated more than 6 feet apart from each other so you can enjoy the pool while social distancing. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the hot tub is not available for guest use at this time. We have installed new outdoor soaking tubs at the Blackberry and Ponderosa Yurts, so if you would like to enjoy a soaking tub, you should reserve one of those: www.airbnb.com/h/BlackberryYurt
We care about sustainability and the planet. We use lightly scented and chemical-free cleaners and laundry soap, and provide single-use organic and biodegradable personal products for you to use during your stay. We disinfect all surfaces with bleach per CDC guidelines.
Wifi is accessible throughout the property but since we are in a rural area, internet service is often slow and intermittent. Unfortunately it is not possible to get reliable, fast internet in our rural area - trust me, we are not happy about it either. We suggest the best way to experience all our property has to offer is to unplug, enjoy the birds chirping, listen to the breeze whistling through the treetops, and breathe in the fresh mountain air.
We are following California’s COVID-19 guidance for campgrounds/lodging, including enhanced cleaning and disinfecting procedures and social distancing protocols. If you have specific questions about our COVID-19 procedures, please ask.

The pool is absolutely gorgeous, can’t beat the view. This is the perfect way to camp they provide a lot of the stuff you need to make your car load light. The property was really cool I enjoyed walking around and exploring.
Beautiful and tranquil space for a vacation! The views are unreal and the pool is amazing! Very easy to work with Tamara and Ramon and would definitely recommend for an upscale camping experience!
It was a nice escape from the city and relaxing weekend. Great views and comfortable, inviting environment. Will have to come back to be able to use the hot tub/pool and have a warm fire, but understandable given the weather, wildfire risk and COVID restrictions. Will definitely want to come back!
We had a wonderful stay at our Sunset yurt! The place is very cute and the sunset view surly lived up to its name! Our bed was very comfortable and the heated mattress did a great job keeping us warm at night. We did not get to use the fireplace due to the fire season in CA, but that’s perfectly fine. Tamara also did a great job advising us where to visit/dine during the day. Lovely stay!
We are located in wine country and we can offer suggestions on our favorite wineries to visit. There are hiking trails within walking distance or a short drive. Chili Bar Park on the South Fork of the American River is a 15-minute drive and has a great beach and swimming area. There are multiple lakes within a short drive for paddle boarding, swimming, and canoeing or kayaking. Commercial river rafting trips take off from Lotus/Coloma which is about 20 minutes away. There are also lots of mountain bike trails and we can help connect you to a mountain bike tour company that will show you the hidden back roads and trails. The area is home to the famous Rubicon Trail for back road jeeps and other off-road vehicles. We are also located in the heart of Gold Country with lots of historical interest surrounding the Gold Rush - we are about 20 minutes from where gold was discovered in California.
There is no public transportation in this part of the Sierra Foothills.
We moved to Garden Valley, California in the Sierra Foothills in 2013 from Oakland/San Francisco where we lived for twenty years. Tamara grew up in Northern California and Nevada and has a deep knowledge of the region and will be happy to make suggestions for places to go that suit your particular interests. We love to cook and eat out and can give you lots of suggestions for restaurants and food and wine-related excursions. Ramon is a native of the Netherlands who immigrated to the U.S. in 2004 and in addition to English he of course speaks fluent Dutch as well as workable German. We have a 4 year old Manchester Terrier, Copper McPenny, and a Chi/Terrier mix, Felix de Leon (puppy).
