Simple and some what practical accommodation

The location is excellent. Half a block from el prado and a few blocks from the malecón. Close to all of my favorite eating establishments. Alfonso was very accommodating. The unit and the building are not pretty, but it’s functional, safe and comfortable. There’s no elevator but on the first floor above the street entrance.

Alfonso's place is a typical Cuban apartment with its run down, worn out style in an old house with high ceilings. It's ideally located very close to the main walking boulevard as well as the beach. You walk up some stairs with broken tiles. Because of its age, it's impossible to have a shiny clean attire. I guess you can only find that in the best hotels in Havanna. The thing I missed most was WiFi since I didn't have any phone network connection. Instead, I had to buy 1h cards at $4 a piece in a hotel at Parque Central to have at least slow online access. Can't blame Alfonso for that, it's just due to poor Cuban internet infrastructure. He's a charming man and tries his best to make you overlook the many things you're going to miss in this country with it's failed system. The breakfast offered by Irene, Alfonso's neighbour was very tasty. I left this country after only 2 days because I couldn't stand it. Not Alfonso's or Irene's fault, though.

Alfonso was great! The casa is very basic and in a building that is literally crumbling around you. The water was unexpectedly shut off due to construction on the prado, but Alfonso was as accommodating as could be and we made the best of an unfortunate situation. The location cannot be beat!
