Vishwal’s rooms are in a great location at the end of the village with spectacular views of the valley from the veranda and gardens. Vishwal is a lovely chap and is renovating the other rooms in the main house. Sadly, he has paid little attention to the rooms which he does rent out; they are in bad need of a deep clean and basic maintenance. We stayed for two nights and managed to sleep on the very hard thin futon style mattresses and tolerated the lack of WiFi and absence of a working shower. In truth, they should not be listed on Airbnb until these very basic items are attended to at the very least. In our opinion, his overall score of 4.5+ is hugely misleading.

Very good location. Top food served by host. Room is very basic, but we were fine with that. Great view in the back. Probably the best of all hotels in Matheran. Great massage on the other side of the street.

I visited Matheran with two of my close friends late in September. We aren't experienced travellers and were looking for a place where we'd be able to hang out indoors as well as step out when we felt like it. Vishwal's stay is amazing. On arrival, we were greeted by an elderly man, who checked us in. The room was spacious and had three beds and two ceiling fans. There was a beautiful verandah facing the valley and we could see the rain clouds or the fog occasionally descending upon Matheran. Mangal, and another person, a woman, at the stay, regularly inquired if we were well-stocked with drinking water, and offered us hot water in the mornings. We had a couple of meals at the stay itself--they were delicious to say the least. The stay offers non-meat breakfast, lunch and dinner, and if you feel like it, you can order in. If you get meat ordered though, please ensure you get the restaurant to send you some cutlery as well. Everyone at the stay was very approachable, especially Vishwal, and it was fun chatting with him and getting to know the particulars of the stay, of Matheran, and of his own experiences. If you're heading to Matheran, do consider their stay!

We had a great view from the outside of our room. Just amazing to listen to the birds. Rooms could be maintained better though.

If one is looking for a quite, calm and peaceful stay, this place would be ideal. The rooms facing the valley are nicer. There is a lot of greenery and birds around. The Gujrati Thali here is one of the delicious dinners to experience here. Nimish was available throughout to guide ans help us here. Do spend time with the old uncle here who would share old stories of matheran. This family run place has a very positive vibes overall. Would reccomdned this. Located at the end of the market. It’s a 8-10 min walk from the train station. Hot water is available only in the morning for bathing. Rooms are neat. The place has an old charm about it.
