Staying at the Black Castle felt like a dream! It has been beautifully and authentically restored and was an incredible part of our honeymoon. Sonja and Kevin went above and beyond in accommodating us, making our stay comfortable and sharing the history of the castle. Their passion and pride in preserving this piece of Irish heritage shines through. There are so many details that make staying so magical… the candles, fireplace, antiques… it feels like you are transported back in time. The property is tranquil and a lovely escape as well. Everything in our stay was perfect and we can’t wait to return again one day! We highly recommend staying at the Black Castle and supporting the continued restoration journey. We couldn’t recommend it enough!!!

Sonja and Kevin are some of the nicest and most talented people we’ve ever met! Truly lovely to meet them and experience this one of a kind getaway. Our stay with them is one of our top favorite highlights of the entire trip. They provided us everything we needed and more. The wine and mead were delightful! We made an awesome breakfast with all their supplied goodies — which were fresh, abundant, and delicious! We feasted in the great hall for sure!!! We were very interested in all the restoration work they’ve done, which is authentic and awe inspiring! We especially loved all the subtle touches and thoughtful decor. Very authentic feeling, understated, tasteful, and yet somehow still very creative. Wish we could’ve stayed longer! This was the only overnight stay on our trip that I refused to check-in late for and didn’t leave early the next morning! Not to be missed; you want be disappointed!!! Looking forward to seeing updates on how their restoration work progresses!

Where to even begin? Staying in an authentic 16th century castle in the beautiful Irish countryside has to be an all-time top travel experience. The restoration work and decor is perfectly executed. Unplugging for a night and living by candlelight — drinking wine, playing chess, talking by the fire — was a much needed escape from our busy modern world. Loved walking along the footpath on the grounds too. Sonja and Kevin went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. Can’t recommend enough!

Absolutely unreal! This one goes down as one of our favorite all time stays. We’ve been obsessed with castle stays for years but everything that Sonja and Kevin have done here is breathtaking. Every detail is magnificent. Every care has been taken to create one of the most memorable and fully enveloping experiences that we will never forget. The personal touches that they left for us made us feel so comfy and welcome! We had every little thing we could have needed and more. Thank you Sonja for making this such a special experience.
