Worst airbnb experience of our lives: Cockroaches and nasty host. We will try to be as honest as possible (click on the link http://bit.ly/oceanandbeachviews to see the pictures and to make your own opinion). The flat has a great view and a nice terrace. There are a few extras for the guests (bathrobes, beach stuff, ...) but that doesn't make up for the rest. The comment of "Maria" in March 2020 was 100% true : - disgusting smell in the cupboard, impossible to put your clothes in there (she thought it was mould, we think it's insecticides : we saw two boxes of products hidden at the back - very old shower cubicle with mould (cubicle not clearly visible in his photos, unlike the new shower head. It's a simple scam, don't be fouled like us) - stained and faded sofa - uncomfortable bed - dust everywhere... Sadly, we have to add this to what Maris wrote : - old yellowed microwave that we don't really want to use - tuft of hair on the terrace - dirt and grease in the dish cupboard - eyelashes on the chair - stains in pillowcases - deco kitch (the photos are more beautiful than reality) Paul keeps saying that he has "very high standards" and that everything has been renovated. But this is not what we have observed : - It wasn't clean, even though he had committed himself to a covid reinforced cleaning (note that he had been chosen for this and the sea view) as written in the advertisement. - It is doubtful that a complete renovation was done 3 years ago as he claims. Unless he bought his furniture in a thrift store... The old school bathroom, the cupboards, the tiles, the old ceiling fan, everything is dated in an 80-90's style with just a new kitchen and a new wallpaper badly glued... It's not enough to declare 10,000 times that you have high standards of cleanliness to make it true, alas. But that's not the worst : we discovered cockroaches and a paranoid and lying host. The first evening, we spent it on the terrace : sunset, then an open-air film with our projector. Super pleasant. When my wife opened the living room door and enters the room, she felt something on her foot. She turned on the light : a little cockroach. She had to crush it. Then a second one near the armchair. She crushed it too. Then a huge cockroach on the side of the front door, she shouted and called me and took refuge in the bedroom. I opened the door and took a broom to chase it out, I quickly took a photo as proof, and the cockroach crawled back inside in the axis of the door under the loose wallpaper, towards the bathroom. We shut ourselves up in the bedroom. We searched the Airbnb website to find out what to do : we had to report the problem to AIRBNB within 24 hours and then contact the host. Which we did directly. It is important to know that cockroaches are very dangerous to health and trigger severe asthma attacks/allergic reactions in addition to other serious illnesses. My wife being asthmatic (and taking medication including cortisone for life), we were forced to leave the premises first thing in the morning to protect her health (I remind you that asthma attacks are fatal), knowing that the cockroach problem cannot be solved easily/quickly, either insecticide bombs are used (very dangerous for an asthmatic woman), or professionals are brought in to disinfect the flat with chemical products and evacuate the premises. We had no choice but to leave, given the dangerousness of cockroaches to human health as stipulated in the airbnb regulations. And it was not over, the worst was only coming. Paul sent us at 9am a loooong reply in which he makes us look like liars, saying that there are not and never have been any cockroaches, that he has "high standards" that no one has ever complained about (it should be pointed out, at this stage, that there is still a well used cockroach bomb in the kitchen, insecticides in all the other rooms and cockroach droppings in the cupboards). He dares to tell us that we have made an express decision to send him a message at night when he can't react to put him out of action (when it's not true, at night it's just the timing where we saw the cockroaches and therefore had to react). All this in an aggressive and paranoid tone (tons of exclamation marks, question marks, capitalized words, accusations). He ends his message by proposing, with a politeness that sounds hollow, a solution that is absolutely useless: send his manager/housekeeper. We didn't understand his aggressiveness and accusations because we politely and honestly reported to him facts that really happened without accusing him of anything. We had NO interest in ruining our holidays and leaving a flat facing a great sea without any good reason! We replied directly to him and he then ignored us for more than 24 hours despite the ongoing problem, we also contacted his manager who also ignored us and never replied to us. Then we had several exchanges and to make a long story short, Paul is paranoid and in bad faith. We tried to calm down the game, to acknowledge his work and we sent proof of the cockroaches with photos. His reaction? Blame us. Initially he accused us of leaving the French window open. When we explained to him that we always closed the door to avoid insects for my wife and her allergic reactions, then he said that the cockroach was outside in the hallway and not inside. No matter how many times we explained the facts to him, told him about the other 2 cockroaches, the cockroach insecticides, the cockroach droppings in the cupboards, he pretended nothing and invented each time a new version of the story that

Paul is fantastic. Couldn't have done any more for us. Arranged transfers from airport (at extra cost obviously) but the driver helped us check in which was awesome! Always there for tips / advice on what to do and where to go. Thank you for making our trip to Gran Canaria amazing. All the best. Kay & Grant

Other than the view, it needs a bit of a proper job done on the place. Good: yes the view of the bay is quite nice. Close to some shops and europa center. Bad: Ill start off with mold /strong smell of mould in the bedroom cupboard so we did not put our clothes there because they would stink afterwards. Could have done a bit more on the clean side, it was done in a rush, even though he did not have guests for 2 days before. The lady was still cleaning when we got there. Most of the place was quite dusty, there is a artificial bamboo full of dust, and most of the shelves were dusty. Mattress on the bed is at least 10-15 years old, and it is a queen bed not really a double. In short this is an old apartment with new kitchen cupboards and a tv. The living-room couch has seen better days, from white it has now yellow cushions. You cant really get a comfy night sleep on it. No high chair and the host got us a “replacement cot bed” that did not have a mattress. The bathroom has spots of mould, and quite old tiling. Front door needs some force to get opened, it hangs on the floor side. We had a car, but otherwise it is a steep climb to the place, and either you need to take the bus or have a car. Saying that , it might get crowded in summer and even if it is a private parking, think is not enough for the no of apartments. Would i stay here again? No. You get better looking places for better value.

Nice apartment in a great location between two bays. Lovely views over Amadores. If you want to go a little further there is a taxi rank directly outside. Netflix on the TV was an added bonus when we wanted to stay in and chill out. There is plenty of room in the apartment. I was racing a triathlon so had a bike in the apartment too. Would definitely stay again
