Knolton Mill Cottage; hidden down a ½ mile track, in 100 acres of beautiful rolling fields & ancient woodland. Extensive private garden. The cottage is edged by the magical Shellbrook - the border with England and the ruined mill sits within the grounds. Knolton is unique, offering a charming and cosy getaway for family & friends to explore the surrounding countryside. The cottage is ‘off the digital grid’ so offers a chance to break free from the hassles of daily life. There’s no broadband , no mobile reception and no TV! So enjoy each others company, savour the cosiness of the cottage , curl up with a book or play some games after a day outside visiting nearby attractions or just mucking about in the woods. The cottage oozes charm with an inglenook fireplace and wood- burning stove in the comfortable sitting room. A second sitting room provides games, books and maps for exploring the locality. The highly original kitchen with traditional Esse cooker and a huge butlers sink has an attached dining room with a beautiful oval table made by a local craftsman using ash felled and planked from the surrounding woodland. There are three bedrooms sleeping up to 6 (two doubles and one twin) and a quaint bathroom with a free standing classic cottage bath and a separate shower. The cottage is deliberately simple but well equipped and the many original features reflect the charm and character of both the location and its 17th century mill heritage.

This was our second time staying here and we loved it this time as much as we did the last! Such beautiful surroundings and the perfect retreat if you do want a break from all devices! Being March it was much colder than our last visit but cosy afternoons by the fire on rainy afternoons was just as enjoyable as time outside by the steam with the dogs. We endeavour to stay here again - thank you for opening your beautiful cottage to us!
Myself & 5 friends had the most wonderful time at Diana's cottage. The cottage itself was clean, comfortable, and just as described in the listing – everything worked perfectly and we had everything we could have needed. In particular, the outdoor covered area with the large wooden table is perfect for eating outside and playing board games in good weather. The grounds of the cottage are really very special, feeling tucked away amongst the trees with a wonderful view over the stream. Its the perfect location to get some peace and tranquility.
This cottage is a gem, highly recommended if you need a reset. We love the total disconnect from the outside world, and the reconnect with nature… beautiful & peaceful. We had a lovely break, can’t wait to book our next visit. Thanks Diana, we’ll see you soon!
This amazing tranquil cottage is absolutely magical. We had a fantastic time again, and will be back.
A really special place to be. We felt that we were in a world of our own when in and about the cottage. Not only because it's a beatifull tended property in the midst of a small patch of woodland, but also because the absence of WiFi and mobile data makes it the perfect spot to come to oneself. Either outside on the garden-table or covered outside-couch overlooking the meadows on the opposite side of the little brook or inside by the firaplace when weather is on the colder side of your liking. Friendly people in the village, great opportunities to walk, good food. And much moore.

The cottage is about 8 miles from Wrexham, just 2 miles from the very attractive village of Overton-on- Dee
Nearby there are many National Trust properties including Chirk Castle, Erddig and Powis Castle.
Drive through the Horseshoe Pass for fantastic views across Wales. Llangollen has its famous
steam railway and canal, you can also white water raft upstream from the town or you can try the
mountain bike tracks at Llandegla near Wrexham.
Nearby Ellesmere has a very active canal basin and
boat hire as well as lots of great shops and pubs Or if you feel like a larger place to wander, the ancient and interesting market town of Oswestry is close by.
The ancient cities of Shrewsbury and Chester are each 30 minutes away.
Snowdonia and the Welsh coast are about an hours drive from the cottage
