I am happy to provide tips of the trade for cougar sightings and urge that you keep your kids and pets with you at all times during your stay. the "do's and don'ts" when encountering predator wildlife are posted in all dwellings for your reading pleasure.

We had the most wonderful quiet weekend in this cozy house. We went to the McCredie hot springs, cooked the fresh eggs provided, and didn’t see another soul the whole time.

This was our second trip to Sally’s Hen House. Everything was perfect, just as before. The bnb is in a beautiful location, surrounded by forest but close enough to a small town with everything you need. The house itself has everything you need- kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom. Sally is very responsive and helpful when it comes to questions or concerns. Thank you for the stay again, Sally!

美国, 俄勒冈州, Westfir

Tired Dog Ranch is the last privately owned 18-acre parcel before the wild woodlands of the western slopes of the Cascade Range. This "Westfir Outpost" (catch phrase for the campsites on the S.E. corner of the property) is literally the farthest east improved land on the south side of the Willamette River, so if you reach an early demise, I have a tractor and the woods don't talk. Kidding.... what I mean is that you will be very comfortably remote from the hubbub of the city of Oakridge, although it is only 4 miles away - 2-miles if you can swim across the Middle Fork Willamette River. That said, let's talk Wilderness Safety 101! Wildlife surrounds and abounds. Whether it be spiders, snakes, deer, elk, raccoon, skunk, coyote, cougar, black bear, pileated woodpeckers, bats, owls, crow, raven, eagle - even stray animals and field mice find their way onto the property - though hopefully one or all will stay outside the dwelling. And the minute I say that, a spider or mouse will make me look a fool. That said, please let me know if you come in contact with any critter while afoot in or out of a dwelling. That said, be careful and keep your children and pets under your watchful eye and close at all times.
The three "Do's" and three "Don'ts" if you encounter a COUGAR: DO: ACT BIG - flap your arms, coat, shirt, swing a stick, etc., DO YELL Loudly in a deep voice - they are scaredy cats so take control, DO KEEP EYE CONTACT while leaving the area of the encounter and back to safety. DON'TS: DON'T COWER (cougars are stalking ambush predators and will go for the neck or back), DON'T SCREAM (this sounds like a baby deer, squirrel or bird - their easy pickin's prey), DON'T RUN!!! Just like a domesticated cat, a cougar instinctively chases things that run - that translates into a nice meal. If confronted by a BLACK BEAR, absolutely get the hell out of there under control, especially if there is a sow and her baby. Follow many of the rules of cougar sightings with a few changes: If the bear is standing still, retreat slowly and surely - keeping eye contact always. If the bear approaches - be ready to fight by any means possible - carry bear pepper spray, find a stick and start swinging, it is important to fight back if a black bear. Don't climb a tree (they can climb, too) and protect your vital organs and face - but strike at their face if possible, don't draw attention to yourself by trying to scare it off (this triggers their aggressive nature - use a low calm voice - no other animal sounds like us, so is more unrecognizable - a good thing! It is very rare for a bear or cougar to attack an adult, but children and pets are more vulnerable as they are small like other wildlife these predators hunt for food. Stay in group formation, don't let your dog or kid run ahead of you or fall behind when on the trail. Always have an escape route and give the animal you confront one, too. These basic rules will help make your stay and play more safe and sound.

出行信息

DIRECTIONS - can be easy if you don't depend on outdated or inaccurate internet maps. While traveling on Hwy 58 (coming from the east or west), access to LaDuke Rd. is Harbor Drive, a cut through road between MP 32 and 33. Quickly you join onto LaDuke Rd. and head east 1-1/2 miles. Once you pass over Grey Creek bridge, turn RIGHT into the next driveway. There is signage "Tired Dog Ranch" just past a post at the driveway entry with the address 47061 LaDuke Rd. If you've hit gravel, you've gone too far - back up and turn right. Travel up the driveway to your dwelling. Carriage Hen House is first and on left side, Yurt is just beyond and to the right, Cottage is up the hill a bit more and on the left, Cabin is the last dwelling - also on the left, Campsite is at east end of property and abuts the national forest.
