Our house is called La Grenouille Verte( green frog) because of the little green frogs who live in the pond and call amorously for a mate in spring. It is a bright and sunny three bedroomed house in a small hamlet of about twenty other houses. It has a mix of traditional features with modern comforts, light, sunny, plenty of space, room to breathe and nearby, wonderful new places to explore. The large well equipped kitchen has all the usual appliances such as dishwasher, microwave, electric oven with gas hob and coffee filter machine it also has plenty of china, glassware and cooking utensils. The cosy lounge has satellite tv and radio, bookcases stuffed with books, a small selection of DVDs and some board games and jigsaw puzzles. There is also a wifi internet connection but with thick stone walls it can be an issue, we can always offer you, a direct ethernet connection. In the spacious bathroom there is a full sized bath with hand shower attachment and a large separate shower cubicle. A soft, fluffy bath and hand towel are provided for each guest. The toilet is separate. We have three double bedrooms. Bedroom one has a king size bed (160x220), bedroom two a traditional French style double bed (140x190) and bedroom three two single beds (90x200). The beds will be made with fresh white bedlinen before you arrive. There is plenty of outside space including a decked terrace with the above ground 5m x 3m pool, sunbeds and parasol, overlooking the pool area is a gazebo with table and chairs. The garden is large and not overlooked, well, only by the cows in the fields next door! Please be aware that while we will make every effort to keep the pool clean and water level topped up, in times of extreme drought when water restrictions are enforced, we may be unable to do this. No refund will be made if these restrictions come into force. We are in the heart of the Perigord/Limousin Natural Park, with many interesting walks and beautiful lakes and the scenery is wonderful at all times of the year. Freshly cooked meals can be provided upon request and prices start from 15€ for a two course meal to 20€ for a full four courses. This is not a gite complex so you will not be sharing the facilities with other holiday makers. We live next door and are always on hand to answer any queries and to make your stay a comfortable one. Although in the peace of the countryside, where you can sit on the terrace under the shade of the trees listening to the birds sing, we are just 40 minutes from Limoges with it's airport, historic buildings and porcelain production. Also of historic interest is the village of Oradour Sur Glane known as the village of the martyrs, where in 1940 the waffen SS massacred almost the entire population and then set fire to the buildings. The village has been preserved in it's ruined state and is a worthwhile if sobering place to visit. Entrance is free. The swimming lake of St Estephe, with it’s free parking, entrance and use of pedalos has walks around the lake and several eating places and is about half an hours drive away. It is one of three pleasure lakes within easy reach so although we are over two hours from the coast you can still find a beach to sunbathe on. About half an hour away is the small town of Piégut, quiet and sleepy most of the week but on Wednesday morning it is packed with market stalls selling everything from moules to baskets, pottery to mattresses! Sit at one of the cafes and have a coffee and people watch and then buy your baguette and cheese for lunch but remember to get there early, it all starts to close up at midday for the traditional long french lunchtime.
