Our cosy, 1860's cottage has a self checkin entrance & sits in a private garden with views to the old barn. The living room, kitchenette, bedroom & bathroom make an ideal getaway for couples. Set on a few acres, the property backs onto a treed river area. It has chickens & friendly alpacas to visit, but is a mere 5 minute walk into town. Ballan is the perfect base from which to explore Daylesford, Trentham, Blackwood, Creswick & Ballarat, all are within a 30 minute drive. Westcott dates back to the mid 1860’s, but while the rustic charm and history of the building can be seen and felt at every turn, the interior has been updated with modern day comforts. The accommodation is set up in the original cottage section of the house. Although semi detached, it is separated from the main house by the original, exterior stone walls of the cottage, making it exceptionally quiet. The cottage has its own entrance and a private garden with views to the old barn. There's no neighbours to look at, just the odd magpie, honey eater or possum! Situated on four acres on the outskirts of Ballan, the property backs onto the meandering Werribee River. The river valley is a quick, easy walk and here you’ll often discover wildlife such as kangaroos, wallabies and an array of birdlife. Listen out for the kookaburras and keep an eye out for the occasional eagle hunting for prey. It’s equally close to the centre of town, just a 500m stroll away to cafes, supermarket, op shops and pubs. Our family consists of Buddy our beautiful Border Collie & his little Sis, Sissy. Our lovely feathered girls are happy to provide eggs for your breakfast (except during their winter break). Our alpacas - Nell, Betty, Olive & Stare-bear come running when they see guests bearing treats of apples or carrots. Feel free to visit them anytime! None of the fur or feather family members have any access to your private space! It’s all yours.

Vicki's place is fantastic! the bed is very comfortable. Vicki left us apples to feed the Alpacas and even bribed them over to us with some hay. thanks again for a great stay!

Ballan is in Wadawurrung country. It’s a charming, peaceful, country town which is especially picturesque as the autumn leaves change colour. The Autumn Festival held in late March gets bigger and better each year! There are cafes, pubs, op shops and markets to visit as you wander around. Ballan is also home to Mill Rose Quilting Shop & gallery, well known by those with a passion for quilting. For the sports minded there’s a lovely golf course set along the Werribee river, which runs the entire way through the town, and great fishing at Bostock and Moorabool Reservoirs, which are also perfect for barbecues and a walk by the water.
Around Ballan there are several mineral springs to visit and many bushwalking areas to explore. It’s also the gateway to the Hepburn/Daylesford spa mecca, but a somewhat quieter option for accommodation than bustling Daylesford.
In less than 30 minutes, you can drive to Daylesford, Ballarat, Trentham, Creswick or Blackwood. Alternatively explore the Werribee and Lerderderg Gorges and The Brisbane Ranges. For those with a green thumb there are many outstanding nurseries in the area. Blackwood has the renowned Garden of St Erth, well worth a visit, as is Blackwood Ridge with its stunning gardens. If wine’s your thing, there’s many wineries to visit as well. This area, particularly Gordon through to Daylesford, is fast becoming very well known for its truffle farms and during the colder months there are many truffle adventures and feasts to enjoy, but you will need to book early. The temperatures may not be so inviting, but the truffles are incredible.

Ballan is less than 80kms from Melbourne, just under an hour’s drive (non peak hour). The railway station is on the Ballarat line and provides regular services to Melbourne (55 mins) and Ballarat (20 mins). The walk from the train station is less than 15 minutes, via the main street.
The town centre is a 5-minute walk and the train station is less than 15 minutes from Westcott Cottage.
An airport shuttle bus stops in Ballan, providing easy access to and from Melbourne’s Tullamarine Airport. The stop in Ballan is a 3 minute walk from the cottage.
