Also zuallererst: es ist das schönste Grundstück mit dem spektakulärsten Blick von ganz Sainte Marine! Wir wussten, daß es ein altes Haus ist, das von der Besitzerfamilie genutzt wird, gerade deshalb dachten wir, es ist bestimmt gut in Schuss, doch leider war dem nicht so. Bei Ankunft war das Haus in desolatem Zustand. Überall Spinnweben, die Küche dreckig und speckig. Wir mussten erstmal staubsaugen und haben dass Geschirr gespült. Nach einer Nachricht an die Eigentümer, ihre Erklärung: die Putzfrau hat gekündigt, haben sie eine Ersatz-Putzkraft geschickt, die für 2,5 Stunden gerade so das Nötigste machen konnte. Die Bäder sind renovierungsbedürftig, vor allem im oberen Bad ist eine Campingtoilette und eine Dusche, die schwierig zu betreten ist. Die Duschvorhänge waren verschimmelt. Die Gartenmöbel alle aus Plastik, zum Teil kaputt und von der Witterung vergammelt. Der Sonnenschirm schimmelig. die Sitzauflagen gammelig. Fazit: man könnte so viel mehr daraus machen.

Our next visit to Ste Marine/Combrit will be dictated by being able to stay in this wonderful house again. The setting is one of the best in the area and the house permeates the history and experience of Brittany. Not glitzy but very functional and comfortable. Easy harbor side walk into Ste Marine and a wonderful beach walk to iLe Tudy for lunch. Day trips from here were wonderful but our common refrain was why would we leave. The views and setting are unbelievable. The host Henrietta was extremely responsive and communicative as was the property Manager, Yann. Our comfort and satisfaction seemed to be their highest priority. As stated, we will be returning and thank the owners for being so gracious and generous to share their wonderful home.

We had a delightful two weeks staying at Henrietta's house, Toulevan, exploring Brittany and just sitting in the garden enjoying the view. If you like your AirBnB to be spartan, modern, and anonymous, then this perhaps isn't the place for you. It's clearly a much-loved family retreat full of art, books, and an eclectic mix of furniture that speaks of generations of family holidays in this magical spot by the sea. The house is comfortable and lived-in, feeling very much like someone's home. Perhaps the best part is the garden, which is large and secluded with a fantastic view over the mouth of the Odet estuary. We spent many hours sitting in the sun watching sailing boats come and go. Our dog loved it too. Straight out of the house you can walk along the coast path and reach the fabulous sandy Kermor beach in about 10 minutes for swimming and exploring the rock pools. The village of Sainte-Marine, which is about 20 minutes walk away, has a few shops, a nice Wednesday market, and a beautiful little harbour lined with cafes and restaurants. On a sunny day you could feel like you are in the Mediterranean. There are supermarkets not far away in Benodet and Combrit. We've stayed in many rental properties over the years and this was certainly among those we've enjoyed the most and hope to visit again.
