Guest House: Completely separate from the main house. (Approximately 50 yards away) It's the perfect place for a couple or single to relax and recharge. King Bed, bathroom with a large shower, kitchen and sitting area on the main floor.
Loft upstairs has a full desk and chair along with an additional plush chair for reading.
Full porch on the back with views of the pond and where the horses feed. Guests have spent many a morning drinking coffee and nights on the back deck drinking wine and enjoying the view. Charcoal Grill on deck.
Property: 10 acre Ranchette with a 2 acre pond and pool. We are at the end of a dead end road and the back of our property borders 440 acres of county owned pasture land. All of the roads to get here are paved.
Pool and Property: Guests will have full free roam of all of the property including the pool, gazebo etc.
We have another Airbnb on the property- it is a tiny house on wheels (like the shows on TV) :)
Raven Bear Ranch Animals:
13 goats: Our goats are like big dogs and LOVE pets and attention. A lot of guests come and fall in love and end up spending a LOT of time with the goats. They are very zen animals and are fascinating to watch and just hang out with. You are free to go in their fenced in area anytime you want just leave your dogs in the cabin when if you go in their enclosure. If you would like to take the goats on a walk please ask us how to do this.
Horses: 2-5 horses (we rotate horses on different pastures with Dori's parents so the amount of horses depends)
***The horses LOVE treats so feel free to bring apples or carrots for them :)
Our House Dogs: We have two german shorthaired pointers: Banks and Jett They do not interact with guests or guests dogs although guests may see them or hear them back in the backyard.
We also have multiple barn cats and other occasional wildlife including deer, ducks, cranes, geese, wild turkeys, pheasants, otters, muskrats. Ducks and cranes are more common. Geese, wild turkeys and pheasants are seasonal. You will occasionally hear coyotes off in the distance at night.
Your Dogs/Cats/Horses: Friendly fur animals are SUPER welcome here!!! Yes this means you can bring not only dogs but horses, cats, chinchillas or bunnies.
Your dogs: Most dogs go off leash and absolutely LOVE being free! They are invited to swim in the pond and pool. Make sure to let us know if you are bringing a pet as we have special welcome packages for them :)
Our property is fenced but not secure if a dog really wants to escape. We find most dogs off leash just like to run in the grass. If your dog is off leash you must keep an eye on them :)
(Do NOT let them wander unsupervised)
***If your dogs are not comfortable with other dogs then we ask that you NOT bring them- we used to try to accommodate but it is too hard now.
***Do not let your dogs harass our cats, horses or goats. (It is normal for a dog to bark a few times at a horse but if it is trying to get to the horses or goats through the fences then you need to not take it close to the fence)
Same with our cats- if your dog wants to chase our cats please keep them on a leash.
Having said all of that about dogs- 95% of guests that visit with their dogs are Awesome pet owners and any of the above warnings would never even need to be said! We have unfortunately had some irresponsible doggie owners and now try to be as up front as possible with dog rules to help guests have the best experience possible.
Pool: you are MORE than welcome to enjoy the pool! Your dogs too!
We have 3 separate sitting areas set up by the pool plus a gazebo close by so plenty of room for guests to spread out
Pond: We have a kayak, a canoe and a paddle boat you are free to use during your stay
Fishing: We have a 2 acre pond. Many people fish all day- we just ask that you catch and release :) Please bring your own fishing equipment!
Birds: We have LOTs of birds- we once had a bird specialist randomly come stay with us and tell me all the different types of birds we have here...oh how I wish I would have written them all down. Or perhaps you know about birds and can help me categorize them? :)
Things to Know Before You Come:
Secluded: We are 20 minutes away from a real grocery store so make sure to stock up before you come. There is gas station 2.5 miles away that has snacks and basic items. We keep tea and coffee and standard kitchen items stocked in the cottage.
Connectedness: We have Wifi. Cell service is not very good. You can stand in certain places to get better signals but Wifi is best here for communication.
***Wifi***: the Wifi might go out while you are here and it might take 24 hours (or more) to get it fixed- we do not have utility services here like in big city- aka things happen slower here! This seems to happen about 1 day a month. We have guests here pretty much every night so if it does happen while you happen to be here we apologize in advance and we always work to get it up as fast as possible. Sometimes it's small things like the olive branches needing to be trimmed out of the way of the beam and sometimes its larger things beyond our control and we have to call a professional out to come fix! Most guests take it in stride and will do other things besides being online, however we have had some guests be very upset about this so we want to just give a heads up that this IS a possibility the Wifi might go out during your stay :)
$0 Cleaning Fees: We have decided on a new policy at Raven Bear Ranch. Based on the fact that about 80% of guests leave our units in great shape we are making our cleaning fee optional.
The default rate is going to be set at $0 dollars to accommodate those 80% of people that are pretty much clean on their own.
We will have a checklist that we will ask all guests to follow in order to keep our cleaning rates at $0.
If you are not able to follow the checklist or just do not feel like doing a little tidying before you leave then you will have the option to pay a $100 cleaning fee :)
The cleaning checklist:
Wash your dishes
Take out the trash
Leave things as you found them (example: do not leave the stove looking like you were competing on an episode of some reality cooking show)
We of course go in and do a FULL deep cleaning between bookings but it just makes everything easier and happier for us for things to be left in decent shape. We are by no means asking you to change linens or do any type of deep cleaning.
A more detailed explanation of this can be sent to you if you request it but basically- treat our place like you would like someone to treat your place and there will be a $0 cleaning fee :)
Self check-in: you will not see us when you check-in.
Early Check-in or Late Check-out Requests: If you need an early or late check-in/check-out please book the night before or the night after to arrange this for yourself. We are booked almost every night and unlike hotels, we do not have other units available to accommodate these requests unless you book the full night before or after your stay.
Personalizations: We do a few things to make all guests feel special when they arrive- please make sure to let us know the first name of you and your guest and your animals names if you are bringing them :)
Discounts: We offer discounts if you book 4 nights (7%), 7 nights (10%), 30 nights (30%). We have a 2 night minimum during the winter and a 3 night minimum during the summer.
Ranch Life: The tiny house is luxurious but this is a ranch with animals and wildlife and dirt and bugs :) Please bring appropriate attire to fully enjoy the ranch life. If coming during the summer please bring bug spray and sunscreen. If coming during the winter please bring boots for the mud.
Children: Children above age 12 are welcome. Most of our guests are adults seeking peace and quiet.
Fire pits: We have STRICT fire bans here during the summer and fall until it starts raining. We do have a gas fire pit you can use on the deck of the tiny house all year round.
Grill: A charcoal grill is on the porch
Seasons: (Instagram @ravenbearranch will have pictures posted at different times of year for you to see things seasonally)
Spring: Lots of flowers and wildlife. By Mid March it starts warming up... By June it becomes pool time!
Summer: July/August/September are very HOT- pool is great during these months
(Cabin has a full AC system)
Temperatures range from hot hot hot during the day to 60's at night
Fall: Mid October to Mid December bring lots of fall colors and everything turns green again from the rain. Great time for wine tasting! Temperatures range from Mid 70s during the day to mid 40's to mid 50's at night
Winter: Mid December-Mid March- brings rain and it can be soggy so bring boots. The rain makes the grass green but there are not as many flowers as in the summer. We enjoy a lot of fires both outside (fire pits) and inside in winter. Cabin is fully heated and has an indoor gas fireplace.
Temperatures range from 50's to 60's during the day and 30's to 40's at night
We certainly have all seasons although it does not snow here.
Colors of the Ranch: In our area of California it does NOT rain in the summer. This means the grass turns brown and the pond level lowers about 6 feet. We have lots of different plants and some bloom during different seasons. Depending on when you are here the grass could be brown or green and some flowers you see in the photos might not be in bloom :)
If you are not familiar with California weather please bring a sweatshirt as the weather can be deceiving (at least for people raised elsewhere) Early mornings can be chilly...Meredith is originally from North Carolina and had no clue the temperature could swing from mid 80's during the day to mid 50's at night. It is nice to be able to leave the windows open at night to get fresh air AC if you like :)
Speaking of Meredith...
About us: We are Meredith and Dori and we live in the main house on the property. We are both entrepreneurs -Meredith manages the ranch and Dori owns an SEO company and has an office 2 miles from here and goes into her office most days.
We are both originally from cities and enjoy the peace and solitude this property provides. We are more than willing to be friendly and socialize or give you complete privacy. If we are traveling we have caretakers stay on the property should anyone need anything. (And Meredith's Mom and Dori's parents are 1 ranch over)
Our interactions with guests: Some guests we never even see. Some we end up having cocktails and dinner with. We are friendly but can sense when guests want to do their own thing! :)
In regards to ranch chores- we try to do anything loud during checkout hours :)- Occasionally we have things come up where we have to do it outside of checkin and checkout hours.
Other people you might encounter:
Meredith's Mom: Becky (she's also from North Carolina and you will hear her accent and immediately know who she is) She comes and helps Meredith daily.
Dori's Dad: Dave - He occasionally comes down on his quad to help fix broken things or help haul our trash out and provides us with olive oil...
Olive Oil: Dave has a small olive farm which is 1 ranch over from ours. We lost the 2020 crop but are gearing up for a great 2021 olive season. We will start offering tours and tastings again in the fall of 2021. Dave has won Gold at the Los Angeles world competition multiple times. He is very modest about it but once you've had olive oil like his you will never go back to store bought again. We are very excited for the 2021 season!!!
入住时间 下午3:00 - 下午9:00、退房时间 中午12:00
If your even debating spending a getaway here, you shouldn’t be :) Dori and Meredith’s place will not disappoint. They did so much to make our stay special, including for our pup. It’s such a nice experience to stay on a farm land style property with so many animals, birds, views of a pond, and great spacious studio with big private deck facing the horses.
10/10 would recommend to anyone looking to unplug and get away from the world for a bit. It doesn’t matter if you’re animal people or not, you aren’t required to interact with the animals if that’s not your thing but if it is, they’re easily accessible. The cottage is BEAUTIFUL and the land is just as stunning. Super peaceful and Dori and Meredith are so friendly. It was a great experience and I’ll definitely be returning.
It was such a nice and calm experience. The easiest check in and check out! Walking around the property was wonderful and the weather cooperated as well! Loved sitting outside and watching the horses come right up and stare at us. hahah!
Our stay was perfectly splendid. We’ve now experienced all four seasons here at the cabin. We cozied next to the fireplace, ate good food and drank wine, and hung out with our dogs. The cabin has everything you will need for a comfortable and serene visit. I love seeing the horse come feed. They bring such love and peace to the surrounding. Dori and Meredith are gracious hosts, and this is one of our favorite places to visit over and over.
The property resides at the end of a private road that is in the Sierra Foothills. Rolling hills with oak tress primarily. We are 30 minutes from Sutter Creek and the other old gold 49er towns and about 30 minutes from Shenandoah Valley the "other" wine country.
We are not close to any public transportation :)
