The cottage is lovely and easy to access. Blockley itself is quite hilly so we didn’t walk around much with the kids, but seems like a neat place to explore a bit as well. The place is mostly clean but there’s a strong and persistent mildew smell throughout. The cottage is also managed by an agency so getting correct details about the place can be tricky. We needed a crib and were told first to request it, which we did. We were then told the cottage doesn’t have a crib. We then found a crib at the cottage when we arrived. A bit of a disconnect.

Great cottage, cute, cosy, great location for the travelling around the Cotswolds. The cottage is clean, tidy and excellent value. Thank you.

If I could give these guys zero stars, I would. We were booked into Foxglove Cottage. Check in was 3pm, we arrived at 415pm. It was our first day in the UK after travelling for about 24 hours and we were looking forward to settling in to rest. It was dark by that time, and we have 2 young kids and all of us were tired and in need for dinner as well. On entering the premises we were shocked to find the cottage in disarray. It was still lived in - dishes in the sink, garbage and trash in the kitchen, all beds slept in and unmade, carpet dirty, fridge with leftover food, stains and stench, fireplace filled with ash, you get the idea. We called them and they responded with apologies, and after some discussion, they could only offer us a temporary one night stay at a place called Bobby Jo's nearby, with the promise that they get it cleaned up for us to check in the following day. This was not an ideal solution as we would then waste our second day repacking and moving back to Foxglove on the second day. We had only 4 days in Cotswold and this is loss of time on our side. We did however take up their offer in good faith – as I mentioned we were tired and needed a solution for accommodation for the night. We took photos of the condition the cottage was in and left to find Bobby Jo’s and arrived at the premises a little after 530pm, about 535pm. We tried to access the key safe at the premise but the code was not given in their email. At this point we are frantically trying to call them but they had closed up for the day. Sitting in the car, we waited and I said let’s give them a few minutes, maybe like half hour. At about 605pm, we could no longer wait. My husband said what if they’ve left and don’t get back to us – it could be hours if they get back to us, or maybe even not. We could very well be stranded with nowhere to stay. We started looking at hotels and apartments available and found one available for 4 days, was in ready condition and booked it. A few minutes later at about 615pm, Character Cottages called back and we told them that we’re not taking Foxglove or Bobby Jo’s any longer. Foxglove was not in any condition to be occupied and we just wasted close to 45 minutes waiting for them to give us a key safe code. Up to that point it’s been nothing but disappointment and frustration and we settled into another accommodation, got dinner and got our kids to rest. The following day we spoke with Character Cottages to arrange for a refund and they said they would get back to us. In our minds, this was a clear cut case for a refund – as innkeepers, you have not fulfilled your end of your responsibility – first by denying us proper accommodation, and with proving a “solution” that really caused more anxiety. We had not stayed a single night at their premises and I would even say it was an egregious breach of contract as innkeepers. Character Cottages came back the following day with a £125 refund, far from the approximate £520 we paid for a 3-night stay. We reported to Airbnb for request for full refund. Unfortunately, they told us we had gone beyond the 24-hour period and only try to facilitate with Character Cottages for a full refund. We were hopeful but unfortunately Airbnb came back to say that Character Cottages will only provide £125 refund. We are penalized for being unaware of this policy when it’s clear that Character Cottages violated the guidelines stated in Airbnb’s terms that warranted a full refund. So, it turns out not only did they not provide proper accommodation for us, but turned our good faith against us by keeping our payment for themselves. It is a blatant money grab as they have done nothing to earn this, while creating undue stress and unhappiness for us and our stay in Cotswold. Long story short – I would not recommend these guys at all. Stay with them at your own peril.

We have just returned from a lovely stay at Foxglove Cottage. It is a cosy little cottage that was perfect for our needs (two adults and one child). The cottage is located in the pretty village of Blockley. There is a local shop a few minutes walk away which was handy for buying essentials. There is also a nice little playground on the village green. The cottage is very pretty and was just the right size for the three of us. The open plan kitchen/living room has a comfortable sofa and having Netflix on the TV was a nice touch. The kitchen is well equipped with everything we needed. The stairs in the cottage are steep as you would expect for a property of this age. There are handrails all the way up and our three year old was able to manage the stairs no problem but you would probably want to watch younger children quite carefully. Upstairs there are two double bedrooms (the larger being on the second floor) and a nice bathroom. The bath is quite small but this didn’t bother us and it was actually perfect for our daughter. There is also a shower over the bath. The cottage was beautifully clean on arrival and the property owner, Christina, was very efficient at responding to queries. We loved our stay at Foxglove Cottage and would love to return another time.

The cottage was charming, thoughtfully furnished and very well equipped. The host was most helpful and Blockley surely must one of the gems of the Cotswolds. We look forward to returning soon
