Tucked away in a peaceful location on the edge of town, but still only few minutes' walk from the bustling, picturesque Quay and heart of the town, is this lovely secret Norfolk hideaway. Tucked away in a peaceful location on the edge of town, but still only few minutes' walk from the bustling, picturesque Quay and heart of the town, is this lovely secret Norfolk hideaway. Aptly named by the owners as their relaxing coastal retreat, this brick and flint modern detached house greets you with a lovely air of calm as you walk in the door. Decorated in a low key seaside style, with comfort foremost in mind, The Haven is an ideal all year round getaway. A well-equipped house with three bedrooms (two doubles and a twin) and two bathrooms (one is on the ground floor), it has a spacious dining kitchen with adjoining utility room. The delightful sitting room has year round appeal, with an efficient electric stove to supplement the heating on cooler days and nights and french doors, that lead out into the walled, private south facing landscaped garden, to open on warm sunny days. Wells-next-the-Sea is a hub for North Norfolk coastal activities. From the picturesque harbour you can either take the mile long walk or the short car journey to the most spectacular of beaches, framed by scented pinewoods and colourful beach huts. The town is blessed with some fine Georgian architecture, especially around the beautiful Buttlands green at the top of the town where you can enjoy good food at both The Crown and The Globe. The busy main street is packed full of independent shops and cafes, as well as a greengrocer, butcher, bakery and fishmonger, all selling fabulously fresh and local produce. This beautiful coastline is a top destination for birders, walkers and cyclists, and the popular activity of catching crabs and taking boat trips to see the seals. Holkham Hall is just a short drive away, where you can hire bikes for the day and cycle or stroll around its beautiful parkland. Additional Information Access to The Haven is via a shared, unadopted steep and gravelled driveway. Sorry, no pets. Please note, there is no starter pack (which includes tea, coffee, sugar and milk) or welcome hamper provided at this property.
Had a nice stay at The Haven. However, there were a few things which didn't meet expectations...when we arrived, the standard of cleaning was poor. Although toilets had been cleaned, and beds and towels changed, there was little sign of the place being vacuumed and dusted. We found crumbs on the lounge floor, and cobweb between the tv cabinet and lounge radiator. Also, we could not get the heating working throughout our stay, as the control was permanently off, and instructions on how to change temperature were incorrect. Whenever we pressed the up or down arrow, the display just cut off and went blank again. We would have reported this, but decided not to, as the temperature got milder as the week progressed. It was just the first 2 or 3 days that were cold. The garden patio area needs a complete scrub down, as it's covered in thick pigeon poo all over the place, and in particular, around the garden furniture and also on the garden furniture, so we couldn't use the garden throughout our stay. There was also no oven gloves in the kitchen. This proved problematic, as my wife burnt her hands trying the get a dish out of the oven, whilst using just a tea towel. The entire place needs redecorating, as there are many scuff marks and cracks all over the property, as well as rotten/peeling window frames. The upstairs bathroom needs an extractor fan. However, on a positive note, the upstairs shower was fantastic, and the best we've ever experienced. Overall, we had a comfortable stay, and may stay again in same property if visiting Wells in the future, as it's in a good location for The Quay, and is also in a quiet and peaceful location. This would be subject to improvements made to address the above.
Wells-next-the-Sea is a hub for North Norfolk coastal activities. From the picturesque harbour (where crabbing is a must) you can either walk, cycle or drive to the spectacular beach with its famous array of colourful beach huts.
Stop at the Beach Cafe afterwards for a drink and snack - you can also hose down a sandy dog! Wells has a pretty, leafy green peaceful square,The Buttlands, which is surrounded by fine Georgian buildings.
There is a bustling high street with all kind of independent shops, some lovely tearooms, great gastro pubs and restaurants.
This beautiful coastline is a top destination for birders and walkers all year round. Beautiful Holkham Hall is just down the road.
You can hire a bike from the quayside and spend a day exploring the coastal paths, or perhaps Holkham estate. And, don't forget to reward yourself after a busy, active day with some of the best fish and chips in the area.
The Wells Beach Bus offers a service connecting the town and the beach – operating a route from the football club car park to the roundabout at the beach end of Beach Road. Dogs are also welcome aboard. The bus will run from April through to October each year.
