Our 10-night odyssey in this Venetian stay was like stepping back in time, but with all the mod-cons. As a multi-gen family of 8, we were accommodated well with the 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The villa had many areas to break out so we weren’t on top of each other and our elderly parents were well catered for with a ground floor apartment It’s worth mentioning the villa was spotless with daily cleans which was hugely appreciated. Maroulas is a very small village with a few stores and tavernas. Rethymno is a short drive and our host Yorghy was invaluable with all suggestions 100% spot on - do yourself a favour and follow his lead. He was incredibly accommodating pre and during our stay which was hugely appreciated. In a world of vacation choices, this Venetian villa in Maroulas was a true Trojan Horse of delight. A bit of Greek flair, a touch of Venetian charm – it's like two myths collided and made an epic reality. Thank you for having us Yorghy!

Ha sido una excelente experiencia. La casa es especial, fantástica y cómoda, inmediatamente te sientes como en casa. Yorghy es un anfitrión fantástico, muy atento y nos dio indicaciones de lugares menos turísticos pero que merecieron la pena visitar. La limpieza y el servicio en general excelentes. Siguiendo la sugerencia de Yorghy contratamos los servicios de una cocinera que se ocupó de nuestreos desayunos. Fue una delicia, ademas pudimos degustar especialidades cretenses y griegas. Un plus!!! Un 10.

YORGHY' is a great host, very friendly and helpful. The villa is in a unique old village, and has an excelent location and beautiful view to Rethimno. The villa inside is a tasteful meeting of the past and the present. Comfortable for a larger families or group as well. I can only recommend it to everyone.

The Villa is just as depicted in the listing. It is not brand new but has been well maintained. Someone did a wonderful job making a modern home out of a 15th c building so that it has comfort and convenience as historic charm. My group of seven women between the ages of 60-70 found there was plenty of space - and a variety of spaces - in which we could be together or apart. The roof top terrace was a delight, as was the pool. The village of Maroulas has approximately 300 residents (we were informed) and there is really not much there but we liked the location as it was nicely removed from the tourist hordes elsewhere. It is equidistant (approx one hour drive) from Iraklion and Hania, both of which we easily visited. Considering its relative remoteness, we were happy to find that there are three very good restaurants in the village. The closest (approx a two minute walk) is Taverna Katerina where I had two of the best meals of my three week trip to Greece. Yorghy is an accommodating host who is eager to please. He took two of our group on a tour of the area shortly after we’d arrived. The next morning he showed all of us on a map of Crete various places we might be interested in visiting and we found his advice very helpful. Unlike most Airbnb-s this place has a daily (except for Sunday) cleaning service which includes laundry. We really appreciated that. I would definitely recommend Villa Maroulas for people who appreciate historic things and aren’t seeking the tourist buzz.

The Villa Maroulas is located in a small charming Cretan village of Maroulas in Reythimnon, Crete. We explored and loved the village, its welcoming people and fresh, organic and tasty cuisine offered by Violetta in the Tavern Armos or in Tavern Fantastiko. Yorghy was one of the most attentive hosts and provided us with information on what to do, where to go and where to eat. We followed his recommendations and were glad we did. As the advertisement says, the Villa Maroulas is located on a 400-year old site. The villa is fully renovated and is very spacious with all amenities. There were some minor issues during our stay in November 2021, but they were all promptly attended by Yorghy. Overall, we were very satisfied with our choice of the Villa Maroulas and its location and recommend it to our fellow travelers for an authentic Cretan experience.
