Our family of four had a great stay at this cottage. George was very helpful in answering questions early on when we first checked out the cottage online and checked in on us (by messages) after we arrived to make sure all things were good. While it did take us a bit to orient ourselves within the cottage (as to where to find things - or space in where to put our own things), we made it work and after a day or two felt right at home. The property is truly beautiful and peaceful. The use of the kayaks were certainly a highlight and we made great use of them. While thankful to have been encouraged to have water shoes along, the water was perfect temperature, even on cooler days. Overall the cottage stayed at a good temperature with outside being no higher then 27 degrees that week. Did a few close outings to Peterborough (zoo/locks) and to Campbellford/Ranney Gorge Suspension Bridge. Loved the locks in the area and enjoyed lots of fishing off the dock and in town. Great time! Thanks.

We had a very beautiful stay. The cottage is simple and everything we needed. In the morning, we would watch the sun rise over the river, turning the trees and water gold and pink as the herons made their rounds. The property is framed with wildflowers - calico asters and spotted joe pye-weed and bur marigold - and the lawn is dotted with vibrant magenta self-heal blossoms. Our kiddo did cartwheels and handstands on the grass for hours. The kayaking was glorious… the blue kingfishers led the way to one of the small islands where they flitted through the trees there. If you’re into moss, there are so many lush moss beds on fallen logs and stones. It’s just the most perfect green. The neighbours are closer than they seemed in photos but the gift of that was the smell of cedar smoke that welcomed us from their daytime fire. We still had lots of privacy. If you’re looking for a pristine, posh resort-style cottage, this isn’t that, but if you’re looking for a friendly, tidy, simple, comfortable place to stay and enjoy the fresh air and fire pit and birdsong, it’s perfect. We’d love to come back and we thank George for his warmth and for sharing their family cottage with us.
