Monolithos is a village which is built on the slopes of Akramiti Mountain, just 10 minutes from the Fournoi beach and impresses with its narrow and picturesque streets, which lie between the stone houses of the village.
The name of the village originates from the huge monolith stone on which it is built. In addition, on top of this rock lies the castle of “Monolithos”, which has an imposing position and an amazing view to the endless blue sea.
The castle was built in 1480 by the Knights of the Order of Hospitallers with a view to watching the entire southern Rhodes and protect it from pirates.
