Welcome! Suspiro do Vale (“Sigh of the Valley”) is the rural tourism concept of Quinta do Panascal de Baixo, a traditional and family-owned wine farm at the heart of Douro Valley. It is ideally located for those who wish to get to know the region's traditional landscapes and flavours while enjoying a tour of the renowned Quintas. Suspiro do Vale: Farm Stays | Experiences | Retreats We chose this name for the new concept of rural tourism at our Quinta, to represent the greatest sensation we feel when embraced by these natural landscapes - it’s a wholesome and relaxing “Sigh” that it’s felt every time one arrives here and connects with all the nature around. Our Quinta is surrounded by an idyllic landscape of mountains and vineyards in the valley of Távora river, just by the estuary where it joins Douro river. The river water reflects its shine and tranquility in the state of mind of each guest and visitor, creating a one of a kind sensorial experience. This experience is complemented by the orchestra of birds that inhabit this place, sharing their daily and extraordinary symphony. We offer large double and private rooms for two people, with a unique design that combines modern and antique touches, repurposing vintage pieces and the natural materials of the farm. Each room is ensuite, with a spacious, inviting and relaxing ambiance. The rooms are conveniently located in the main terrace of the farm, with access to the outdoor lounge and pool area, and amazing views of the valley. This listing is for the yellow room, also known as Almond Room.

Matilde is an exceptional host! We arrived later in the evening after a long day of driving, we let her know what time we would be arriving and she gave us 3 options for dinner and she cooked us 2 of them. They were amazing and she had a bottle of her family vineyard wine for us too! (Her fee for cooked dinner and prepared breakfast are very reasonable). The location is amazing with a stunning view and peaceful property ! She has many wonderful recommendations close by and even gave us some tips for the rest of our Portugal journey. The property has numerous beautiful orange trees that you can eat as well as some other fruits. And also, we can’t forget about Bill the dog. We highly recommend staying here
Reception, hospitality, breakfast every thing is excellent
We've been staying in Portugal for a month and this was by far our best experience here so far. Matilde's place felt straight like out of a movie. Not only does it have jaw dropping views and a beautiful scenery but also Matilde made us feel right at home. It is perfectly located in Douro 10/10!
Un angolo di paradiso ma non consiglio di cenare nel suo ristorante perché ritengo che sia troppo caro 25 euro a persona per un secondo di carne di bassa qualità. Il filetto di manzo non era un filetto, la spalla di agnello a mio avviso troppo dura e il mezzo pollo tolto le ossa non valeva la cifra che abbiamo pagato. Consiglio di provare ristoranti nei dintorni. In Portogallo con 30 euro a persona si possono ordinare 2 corse di pesce fresco !!! Ho comunque apprezzato l'impegno ma troppo caro per cioʻ che é stato offerto a cena, in cucina non si puoʻ improvvisare !
Matilde's quinta has a great location - peaceful yet close to the best parts of Douro. There are orange trees - and you can pick and eat from these. There is a pool - when we were there the weather was too cold to use it. She serves breakfast - bread, cheese, marmalade, and yogurt with coffee. Matilde is a very friendly host - gives great advice and suggestions on where to go and what to see. She was helpful and accommodating.

Douro Valley and the Alto Douro Wine Region have been recognised by UNESCO since 2001, as a World Heritage. It’s highlighted as an outstanding example of a traditional European wine-producing region, reflecting the evolution of this human activity over time.
Our Quinta is located in a very strategic place between Peso da Régua (20km away) and Pinhão (4km away), a great location if you want to explore the surrounding areas and emblematic Quintas. You can enjoy many view points close to our Quinta, beautiful vineyards, great restaurants, boat tours and wine tastings.
We are neighbours of ‘Quinta do Panascal - Fonseca Guimarães/Taylor’, and you can visit this Quinta by foot. You can also walk along our own vineyards, olive groves, farm grounds and fruit trees. From our terrace you will have a beautiful view of the Távora river valley and you can cross the mountains along the footpaths and also reach Douro River by walk.
Quinta do Panascal de Baixo is located near Valença do Douro, around 2 hours drive (150 km) east from the city of Porto.
PLEASE NOTE:
If you are using GPS, please don't drive to Valença do Douro village, because our Quinta is located just before the village, beside Távora river and 800 meters from Douro River.
Exact GPS coordinates will be provided after booking.
If you are coming from Porto you must pass Peso da Régua. When you get there you need to cross the old bridge (N2) and you will find a roundabout where you should take the first right. In the next intersection turn right again in direction to Pinhão/Tabuaço. So, you will finally be on the N222 and you must continue on this road. You will pass the Dam on your left, continue on this road and you will cross the first bridge (Ribeira de Temilobos), then continue 6km more and you will find the second bridge (Tedo River) and keep going 5km more until the third bridge. Cross this bridge and turn right. There is a big sign of Quinta do Panascal. Take this little road along Távora river and after 1km you will find Quinta do Panascal de Baixo's entrance, on your left.

I lived for 10 years in England working as a nurse and recently decided to come back to Portugal and look after my family's farm in the heart of Douro Valley. Travelling has been a top list thing. Have been to South America for 6 months,visited southeast Asia and many places in Europe. Sharing pieces of culture is a fulfilling joy and pleasure!
