The 1897 Farmhouse is a pup/pet friendly property and we welcome your four-legged family member. Our pup, Clarky, is by our side when we travel. So, when we updated The 1897 Farmhouse we included, next to the large deck, a private fenced "Doggie Corral" for your pup to do his or her business in a safe environment. Your pup deserves a vacation too rather than spending the day inside. - More Value - With a fully equipped kitchen and outdoor grill you can choose to “dine in” with your family and friends perhaps making your vacation more affordable. Nestled on 3.76 beautiful rolling to your next escape. Retreat to our small cozy 2 bedroom farmhouse with family or friends, and your pup for days filled with serenity. Read your favorite book, take a stroll by the barn and enjoy life in the Shooting Creek Community. As you enter the farmhouse you will find short ceiling heights....Why, well when the house was built in 1897 were people substantially shorter? Actually no. Rather, originally the farm house consisted of only two rooms with a fireplace in each room. Living room fireplace now has gas logs. Lower ceilings equaled easier to heat. Don't worry. There are no ceiling fans and unless you are 6' 8" you won't hit your head. :) Between the farmhouse and our/your barn is the paved road known as Laurel Branch RD. The road sits close to the farmhouse. If you are sitting on the deck, many folks will wave as they pass by. It is estimated that the farmhouse was built in 1897…William McKinley was President, milk was 14 cents, a man’s suit was $7-$16 and a women’s dress was $10-$12. This house was built on a cedar tree main beam supported by stacked rocks. So as you walk around the house, you will notice a slight wave a portion of the floors. Two bedrooms are separated by a full bath. One bedroom with queen bed, one with two twin beds. Living room with sofa bed, flat screen HDTV, Blu ray, and internet access. Full kitchen with dishes, cookware, etc. New dishwasher. Coffee maker with auto shut-off. Keurig Washer, dryer provide convenient laundry self- service. Deck, outdoor dining table, rocking chairs and gas grill. And, check out the Doggie Corral...a special fenced in area off the deck for your pup to do his business. The Doggie Gate can be closed if mom and dad need a break from their four-legged family member. For your next escape, consider our Farmhouse We love it and we know you will too. The beautiful pasture, barn and creek surrounds you when you stay at The 1897 Farmhouse. And, if you are bringing your boat you will find launching ramps nearby, ample on-site parking and lake access via a small private dock that is part of the community. Candidly, it is down a fairly steep path. You will have the comforts of home right at your fingertips at The 1897 Farmhouse.

It was very close to our property in Shooting Creek NC and it was perfect. My husband, the dogs and I only stayed two nights and it was a very quiet and private location. If you stand over 6ft 4" watch your head.
The farm house is amazing! it's very serine and comfortable. It's quiet and spacious. We absolutely enjoyed our stay here and would definitely stay here again as we have family in the area and we visit often. Also, was perfect for our doggo as well. They have a nice fenced in area for your dog and our dog felt very comfortable here. It was awesome to be able to vacation with out dog and we really appreciated them for allowing our dog to stay as well. There is lots of outdoor space here too which we enjoyed very much. There is a stream just across the street and in the quiet of the evening when you're sitting on the deck out back, you can hear the water and that's a nice touch. I highly recommend this place!
Our 3 night stay at Thomas’ Farmhouse was great! Imagine staying at a circa 1897 farmhouse with modern appliances and conveniences in a picturesque setting in the NC mountains! Thomas is an exceptional host. He provided all the info we needed beginning the day we made our reservation. He was available to answer any questions and made sure our stay was relaxing and enjoyable. We were within close proximity to small towns with restaurants, breweries and wineries. And if you have a small dog or two there is a “doggie corral” attached to the porch! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to a return visit!

One of our favorite places we’ve stayed. We felt very cozy and at home here. A beautiful rustic farmhouse with a beautiful view surrounding. We will definitely stay again next time we are in the area! 10/10

The 1897 Farmhouse is located is located in an area known as Shooting Creek about 6 miles east of Hayeville, NC, 9 miles north of Hiawasee, GA and 30+- miles north of Helen, GA
The area is called Shooting Creek.
Shooting Creek and the Shooting Creek community is where the creek emptied into the Hiawassee River was the old settlement of Dani’sta-la-nv’yi, which translates roughly as “place where there were always shooting noises.” Unfortunately, the site of the town, Shooting Creek, is now covered by Lake Chatuge.
The Cherokee word was too much of a mouthful for English speakers, so it became Shooting Place and that became Shooting Creek. A modern Cherokee word from the same root is Distayohi [“he shoots off firecrackers,” for Santa Claus, so Christmas is Danistayohihv, “when they always shoot off firecrackers”].
