Have an amazing view of the stars when you stay with us at our hill-top lean-to. Located on 50 acres, this private lean-to is the perfect place to sleep under the moon-light. No tent needed but you will want the rest of your camping gear. We'd love to help you plan your activities for your trip! Our property includes miles of hiking & mountain biking trails and there's a resident hawk that lives/hunts near the lean-to. Great place for birding and moose tracks have been seen at the lean-to :) Rural, but centrally located, Overlook Lean-to is seven miles north of Paul Smiths College on Rt. 30. You’ll be in one of the most varied wilderness areas of the park. The Adirondack Park Visitors Interpretive Center is five miles away with wonderful hiking trails and educational programs for the whole family. You’ll be 25 minutes to Saranac Lake or Malone; 35 minutes to Lake Placid and its Olympic venues; 50 minutes to Whiteface Mountain. The Natural History Museum of the Adirondacks (the Wild Center) is 40 minutes away in Tupper Lake. Overlook Lean-to is a 3 sided shelter with an open sleep/hang out space. There is an outhouse nearby which comes stocked with toilet paper and is a piece of art in itself. There is a nice campfire spot just in front of the lean-to for marshmallow roasts or quiet fire gazing. A complimentary bundle of campfire wood is provided for your use, more for purchase. We provide a sheltered table you can cook and serve food on. We provide potable water in a jug for your use. There is also a gas stove that you can use! There are nearby trails which are excellent for mountain biking with both back country roads and single-track. Designated horseback riding trail heads are less than a mile away. A “Wild and Scenic Study River,” the Osgood, flows nearby with put-in and take-outs within a couple of miles of our driveway. Drop-off and pick-up arrangements can be made. This is a “must paddle” for those interested in wildlife and scenery. Many have spotted the bald eagle who has a nest at the river’s edge. We are surrounded by many great fishing spots. Your hosts, Bob and Sheila, are a former professional wilderness guide, and a life-long resident of the Paul Smith’s area. Between the two of them, good advice—connecting you to great experiences and unique destinations is as close to a “sure thing” as you can get. The temporary use of their brains is complimentary!
The Lean To is a perfect “glamping” spot! It’s peaceful and quiet and also watertight in a storm. Bob and Sheila are great hoists and we can’t wait to book the Lean To again!
Five stars for sure ***** Sheila and Bob were gracious hosts and the Lean-to exceeded my expectations. The net around the bed kept us free of bug bites. The kitchen set up has everything needed. Composting toilet in outhouse was spotless and well designed. I also booked their Magical Treehouse (has a private full bathroom use access) a 2 min walk from the lean-to on the same property which makes it perfect for a family or friends wanting space/privacy but togetherness as well! Gorgeous property, immaculate and the love in building this etherial place is tangible. They have curated it’s design to near perfection. I absolutely plan to return and highly recommend them. Will, the property manager was knowledgeable, friendly and helped us find our way around. Lake Placid is nearby and we even spent a day in Canada! Great spot!
Great getaway, everything was well documented on the listing so we knew exactly what to expect. Would definitely recommend, and would love to come back!
Shelia was extremely friendly and helpful throughout our entire time there. I loved that she gave my group of friends and I a sample of her fresh maple syrup they have at the location. She also told us where to get the best pie! Overall would recommend to any travelers looking for an adventure and a cool campfire.
Overlook Lean-to is part of Adirondack Adventure Base, a beautifully maintained 50 acre property with other venues, each with their own private area. Your 'neighborhood' consists of a treehouse, primitive campsites and a vacation rental cabin. There are over 5 miles of private trail systems perfect for walking, mountain biking, snowshoeing and cross country skiing. There's something for everyone and many guests don't even leave the property.
You'll need your own car. If you'll be flying in, you can fly into SLK, rent a car, and the lean-to is 15 minutes away.
