Camping in Algonquin Park is expensive! And who wants neighbouring tents? Come stay on a working farm in the quiet town of Maynooth, just 30 minutes from the East Gate of the Park and the town of Bancroft. This campsite is nestled in a bit of forest, with a separate rocky area perfect for a fire. It's a very private spot, but animals may be pastured nearby. Check out our other listing for a camp clearing that's more family-friendly and includes a screened-in kitchen. This third-generation farm with two-hundred year-old house is a passion project in ecology, food security, and preserving traditional skills. Pigs, goats, bees, ducks, chickens, and a cow work in a cycle of inputs: digging, clearing brush, and fertilizing future farmland in this rocky place, so that we can grow awesome organic veggies and improve the land for future farmers.
Thank you Tom for the amazing stay at SunRun farm. We really enjoyed the 2 days we were there feeding Irie and Annie and playing with Stevie and Charlie. We biked around the locality and found Graphite lake which was gorgeous. The campground inside the bushes was secluded and we enjoyed the privacy and solitude. We would go back there again. Thanks to Tom and O’Leitha for the hospitality ❤️and the delicious organic eggs and the rhubarb tea 😋
Love love looooooved Tom's campsite. It was my first time camping in a private location and I don't think I can ever go back. Loved the farm animals, Tom and his family were very kind and welcoming. I would definitely come back.
Could not have asked for a better place to spend a weekend away to catch the fall colours. Tom was super attentive, making sure we had everything we needed. Getting to spend time with the animals was such a delight. Definitely recommend.
We had to make sure we got to come for one more stay before winter hit, now we cant wait for next summer to come back! Tom and all his friends and family are amazing and we as always had an amazing time with the animals! We had a lot planned for our trip that we didnt end up doing because we were to relaxed by the camp kitchen to notice half the day had flew by hahaha
I stayed at the campsite at the end of the active pasture. The cute cows and goats would walk over to check me out and keep me company. The tent was set up in the woods in a very private spot. The firepit area had a convenient table and chairs and a view of the pasture. The outhouse was next to the other campsite just a 3 minute walk. I was the only camper and had the place to myself which was awesome. The old pastures behind my campsite were a wonderful place to have a day-long picnic watching the goings on in the meadow. On my way home I had a relaxing dip in Graphite Lake just at the end of the road. This spot was ideal for a little retreat away from everything and everyone. Tom is a lovely host.
Maynooth is home to antique stores, a cafe and bakery, and a pub open Friday and Saturday nights with live music and take-out pizza and pub food Thursday-Sunday. There's a liquor store, gas bar, ATM, and general store with necessities.
Please be warned that the town of Maynooth is your last stop for amenities, and everything shuts down at 6 p.m. daily. Be sure to bring enough gasoline (and beer!)
We can direct you to fishing, swimming, and hiking spots, plus three close-by provincial parks. (See welcome book)
You can ride ATVs from the farm to connect with the trail system 1km down the road. You can bring bikes, but the highway here and our gravel road are quite hilly. There is a railway line trail that is flat, but the gravel is soft.
The town of Bancroft, with more amenities, galleries, and really good coffee is 20 minutes south. Here you can rent canoes and kayaks and there are some hiking trails (Vance Farm park, Eagle's Nest park).
There is a more complete list of things to do and see in our welcome book.
There is no public transit here.
