While this property was promised to be a fully functional 2.5 BHK, all we got in return was a semi-functional 1BHK. The upstairs was completely nonfunctional and there was only 1 AC in the ground floor, that too in the bedroom. The lone fan in the top floor master bedroom couldn’t make a page flutter, leave alone make do for the onset of the summers. The AC failed to function since our arrival. The owner sent the AC maintenance people, who came in at 9PM (as sought by the owner) and stayed until 1030PM that night, with no resolution. We wanted to step out the next day to see the Ganges at about 830AM, having informed the help that we’ll be back by 10AM, yet the owner was very stern with the fact that we were not there for the AC people to enter and start working. She sent positively rude texts requesting my immediate presence. When we came in, the AC people fiddled about for another hour only to reveal that the circuit board had burnt and they will positively get it back by 9PM that day. We had seen the level of efficiency and had our doubts, come 9PM no one arrived. The AC was not mended until our departure. The 0.5 room had packed big boxes lying about, with another AC unit that was out of order lying about and no fan. We were told a sofa-cum-bed was also available for our use, but one could not sleep in it without risking backaches and other body pains as it wouldn’t flatten out and thus was rather uncomfortable to sleep in. Despite renting the whole house we had to be confined to the ground floor, while my father slept on the floor for the 4 nights that we stayed there. Mosquitoes are a common problem throughout India and we were offered nothing apart from a mosquito swatting bat which functioned when it chose, much like most of the appliances in the house. No mosquito repellents, All-out liquidators, Good Knight mats or even mosquito nets were provided to shield us from these perils. The ACs of the living room has been taken out with the outdoor unit of one of them crowding the already measly kitchen space and the tube light was retrofitted to the living room AC connection for another. The cupboard in the top floor room was locked and the upstairs only had two drawers for use. We were not even provided with enough linens. There was only one thick duvet that was there, not even bedsheets to cover oneself up at nights. So we had to take the sheets off of the beds, dust it off and use it at night. Only for the house help to show up the next day and interrogate us as to why had we taken off the bedsheets. The house did not even provide separate face and body towels in the bathrooms and all we were given to use was two inferior quality body towels that would not absorb water but would merely displace it from one location to another. The house did not provide any toiletries either, basics like soaps, handwashes etc., things that are a staple affair at every Airbnb I have ever stayed in, be it India or even as far as Athens, were too much of a hassle for the owner to bother with. The fridge was stinking of multiple things that were rotting inside, including a half tub of yoghurt, and other frozen goods that had thawed and then refroze and was rather rancid. Because we were staying for so long and needed the fridge, we cleaned it, and used. The house is marked as child-safe, but it isn’t. The top floor has glass doors that open into nowhere but a straight drop to the ground floor. A “death trap” if you will. The staircase has no railings, also making it unsafe for small children. There are two very beautiful lamps in the living room, neither of them work. Although the house says, “Wi-Fi enabled” with a “pocket WIFI”, it doesn’t work. It won’t even let you open your mailbox leave alone use it for viewing my subscriptions on the provided smart TV. Before I booked the house, I asked the owner if we can use the kitchen, which she agreed with. Later when I mentioned that we would also like the house help, that she usually offers with the house, to come in once a day to clean the dishes she suddenly said it would cost me Rs.350/day, which felt like she was taking advantage of the situation, but quickly levied the fare when I persevered. The house help is a damnation of her own. Creating hues and cries as she pleased. The day we arrived she promptly offered to buy us some provisions, after our travels we were quite tired and took her up on her offer. Despite handing her Rs.300 for said provisions, she came back with a handful of things, and provided no accountability for it when asked about charges. When we asked her why the fan of the top floor master bedroom was not working and why the AC was defunct, she screamed that she doesn’t use either facilities so she is unaware. The owner had marked her as an “estate manager” in our communication and this really was within the reach of her responsibilities. We let it slip under the rug and asked her to come in and do the dishes at 10AM. Next day she came barging in at 8AM and kept muttering how she is going above and beyond to do the dishes despite being advised not to by the owner. We told her about the communication with the owner but she refused to listen to any rhyme or reason. We wanted to go out and when we asked her to leave and come in only at 10AM as previously advised, she again threw a fit and
