德文 · 农家仓房 · 2室3床2.0卫 · 可住4人 · The Hayloft - ideally located for coast and moor.
We bought The Hayloft as a holiday let and second home for our family. Dartmoor and the South Hams are our two favourite locations in Devon. The barn allows easy access to both. Given our experience in holiday letting we try to ensure that when guests are in residence the property feels like their domain so all our personal belongings are locked away in the third bedroom. The barn is a relaxing bolt hole away from the demands of modern living. We love it and hope all our guests will too. The Hayloft is accessed on two levels. From the private lane that runs behind the barn at first floor level there are two doors. The backdoor leading into the kitchen is our usual means of entry. The first floor is a large, spacious open plan area with modern kitchen with marble work-tops, there is a fridge , freezer, built in oven and microwave and dishwasher. The large dining table and chairs are next to the sitting area Downstairs and at ground level are two guest bedrooms , a king with en-suite and a twin bedded room. There is a family bathroom. The utility room is also on this floor. The third bedroom is for family use and storage.. There is a door in the king room which opens on to the gravel patio area with outside seating. The decor and furnishings are aimed at reflecting the barns location between moor and sea. On the living room area floor the colours are reds, yellows , fawns and darker shades, moor like in tone and the ground floor enjoys whites, yellows greys and blues highlighting the proximity to the sea. The two walled courtyards are for the exclusive use of guests and provide a great sheltered area all year round on good days.
Great location, really nice open plan kitchen diner, high end furniture and finishings, lovely comfortable living quarters, host was informative and friendly. Would highly recommend.
Excellent barn conversion. Quiet , Warm, Clean and spacious. Would definitely stay again.
What a find! A wonderful accommodation in a converted barn, beautifully clean with everything you could possibly need. The pictures don’t really do justice to the gorgeous upstairs living space, with its high beamed ceiling, open plan lounge, kitchen and dining area all stunning with a lovely, modern woodburner for cosy nights in. The spacious downstairs with very comfy beds were perfect for our needs, a double and a twin for us and our 2 x 15 year olds, our son and nephew. The location is gorgeous, quiet, countrified but near enough to routes for exploring… beautiful Dartmouth and it’s steam train and boat rides were 25/30 mins away and lots of beautiful coves and beaches were waiting to be explored. I have to say Malcolm was the perfect host and prior to and during our stay was on hand by email with very helpful information to make the most of our week, with a very fast response time! Caroline, who looks after the property and lives next door was also a wonderful help with a wealth of local knowledge and suggestions. The welcome goodies were both unexpected and gratefully enjoyed, such a lovely touch! We will definitely be returning and can’t recommend highly enough as the perfect base to visit Devon.
We stayed 9 nights at the end of September and would happily have stayed longer. We picked the Hayloft because we knew the weather would be unpredictable and we wanted somewhere we'd be happy with in the event that weather kept us indoors. Malcolm's place turned out better than we hoped. It's great - clean, tastefully decorated, spacious and airy. [Note for any Parkrunners reading this - we went to Bolberry Down which must be one of the most scenic park runs in the country - we know this because we also went there during the week to check out where it was etc. - and on that day the weather and the views were fantastic. On the Saturday it was thick fog and you couldn't even see the sea! But still an enjoyable run, nonetheless.]
My family have owned holiday lets since 1982 in or around our home town of Falmouth in Cornwall.
This is the first property which has been bought as both a holiday let and second home for the family.
The location in the South Hams being close to both the coast and Dartmoor ticked for us easy travelling distance to both our favourite areas in Devon.
It's in a beautiful rural location with great walks from the doorstep.
Andrew's Wood a local nature reserve is within walking distance or a short car journey. Walks along the River Avon too can be made from the barn. Stunning Devonshire countryside with rolling hills and wooded valleys and good Dartmoor views can be enjoyed all around the hamlet of Woolston, where The Hayloft is located. The south Devon coast is a short car trip away. This makes our favourite locations of Bigbry, Burgh Island and Hope Cove easily accessable. Crucially for me, the bird watching is great all year around.
The village of Loddiswell with pub and shop is is within a couple of miles and the town of Kingsbridge is about three miles away. The California Pub which serves good food is opposite the garage with a shop and is about one and a half miles by road .
Transport of some kind would be essential.
As in any popular tourist areas parking in well known tourist hotspots in high season is in demand.
However, there are many beaches woods and hillsides around especially those where a walk of varying distances is needed. This leaves them with plenty of space to be enjoyed. A little research can prove a huge bonus.
Devon is great for an out of season visit year round. Pubs, eateries and many tourist spots are open all year.
