We recommend trying Cahills sooner rather than later. It’s our favorite breakfast in bluffton and they have a little market with fresh fruits, vegetables, eggs (laid by their chickens), and other local goodies like grits, sauces, etc. for purchase. They are farm to table so a lot of what they offer on their menu comes from their farm. Their menu also changes often based on vegetation. They also have an incredible southern breakfast. You can see their chicken hen and the largest peanut landmark!
Walk over to the Promenade – a family friendly environment. Our personal favorite is FARM for brunch which offers fresh farm to table experiences with menu changes weekly. They also have a wine bar, coffee shop, other restaurants with outdoor seating, and cute boutiques.
Walking distance from the Promenade are MORE restaurants and shops. We highly recommend The Cottage for some of the best shrimp and grits! Their grits are top rated in the state of South Carolina (and number one in our minds – especially the Pimento Cheese Shrimp and Grits). Also check out the Bluffton General Store for some local goodies – we purchased a lot of our décor from there as well as many of the local craftsman and artists in Bluffton. There are so many other beautiful boutiques and restaurants to checkout in Downtown Bluffton.
While you are in the heart of Bluffton make your way over to May River Excursions where you can book some fun adventures on the water! We loved the dolphin cruise and we still plan on trying the crabbing excursion. They offer a wide variety of fishing, river, and water taxi services including a sunset, historic, and ecology excursion. They also have taxi services that can take you to Palmetto Bluff, which we highly recommend you visit. If you are in the mood for relaxation they have a top rated Spa – the Montage that was highly rated by Southern Living.
From the house you are able to walk over to the Oyster Factory on the water and buy some freshly caught steamed and deshelled crab or freshly caught shrimp, fish, and of course oysters. We love cooking the shrimp on stove top! Feel free to also use our Treager grill! The Oyster Factory also make the cutest decorations with oyster shells like the wreath over the king bed in the master bedroom, frames in the house, tissue box in the half bathroom, lamp in the living room, and other items in the house. You can also have items made to order!
If you are in the mood to shop there are 2 Tanger outlet locations with some great stores.
I personally love historic sights, try checking out all the historic landmarks around town. The most popular is the Church of the Cross on Calhoun Street – it’s a beautiful church right on the water that sells local honey when you visit. The Church is within walking distance of the house and I highly recommend you take the stroll. Bluffton does an excellent job preserving historic landmarks. They have a huge focus on parks and events.
When you are ready for the beach, drive over to Hilton Head where you can enjoy the beach. We personally love going to Skull Creek to enjoy dinner and drinks with the most beautiful sunset. We also love visiting Harbor Town Marina where they have a lighthouse, restaurants, shops, playground for kids, etc. There are also many cruises you can take from here including the Salty Dog sunset dinner cruise, Pirate cruise, fishing tours, and many more options.
25 minutes from the house you can visit Savannah where there is a wealth of history. If you haven’t been before we recommend visiting River Street where there are many restaurants and shops along the water with pebbled streets. Savannah also offers many historic tours.
You can never get bored around here. Us ourselves are trying to experience as much as possible and are no where near trying everything. We would love to hear from you about some of your favorite experiences that we can try ourselves!

Of course we personally love walking around town to the Promenade, downtown historic Bluffton, The Oyster Factory, and Church of the Cross area. There is no public transportation. We offer parking spaces at our house in our driveway where you can easily accommodate up to 4 cars easily. If you need additional parking their is free street parking just 50 or so steps from the house on May River Rd. I park their myself whenever we bring 2 vehicles because the house has a 1 lane driveway.
