Hi, I'm Garth. It's been so awesome to meet guests from all over the world since 2018! We have tried to consistently improve the comfort and safety of our guests stay. We want to provide exceptional value in accomodation and showcase the area I grew up in. I grew up in the Whyte Ave area, and raised my kids in the house across the yard from the apartment you're staying in. I really want you to "live like a local" and take in all the great things about Old Strathcona and it's amazing history. And don't just stay on Whyte Ave! Check out the sidestreets with many great little shops,restaurants,old houses and apartments and the shops tucked away in alleys,between buildings and in little 2nd story shops. Try the great pubs and restaurants on 104 and 103 streets downtown around the ice district and Jasper Ave. If you're adventurous check out Chinatown,Little Italy and 118 Avenue from 101 street to 34 street. Check out 124 street where Jasper Avenue ends up to 111 ave. So many great Restaurants and shops. Explore the surrounding neighborhood of Westmount with very old houses listed as one of the largest stock of its kind in North America. Check out the Ritchie market at 76 ave and 96 street. The street where I grew up. Walkable from where your staying with many nice old and new houses along the way. ( about 8 blocks) There are many fantastic things to do and see in Old Strathcona,the river valley, downtown and the places I've mentioned. And most are very close! As a life long resident I would be happy to answer any questions you may have,or give suggestions for many awesome places to explore. I'm a retired City Peace Officer and can answer any concerns about having a safe pleasant stay in Edmonton. I would be happy upon scheduling an approximate time to monitor the cctv camera if any guest is nervous about returning late in a big city alley. The guesthuse is well lit. I have very good relations with the people in the apartment directly across the alley. We look out for each other like good neighbors. These "eyes on the street" help to ensure safety. ( Although there are homeless people that travel the alley for recyclables it is safe...like anywhere be aware of your suroundings ). You can also refer to the photographs and the guestbook for suggestions on food,shopping and entertainment. I've listed many of my favorite places,and there's so many I have to add new ones all the time. I hope you like them as much as we do! Everything except West Edmonton mall is close! ( one bus from the corner gets you to mega mall...long ride by bus...20 minutes by car.
