Good location, but that's it. The apartment looks nice in the pictures, but they don't convey the location at the end of a musty hallway, broken/uneven flooring, peeling paint on the pipes, hair on the towels or bugs. There were flying insects in the bathroom and common area when we entered . Ants were in the kitchen, common area and my bedroom - I found some IN MY BED! The owner replied that its getting warmer, so insects are to be expected and instructed me to use the can of Raid under the kitchen sink. That's callous and completely unacceptable. She offered to have the housecleaners return, but I had left for the day and spent the rest of my time at my brother's apartment with a newborn and toddler. I thoroughly checked my bags, making sure to remove any hitchhiking ants to avoid bringing them to his apartment.
The apartment was spacious and had an open concept, which is lovely for a family. The entrance to the apartment was sketchy, and every time we came in, I looked for rats or animals that would pop up from those dark places; the kitchen needed some essentials, like salt, pepper, sugar, little things that would make you feel at home, and it could use some fixing. The faucet was leaking, and we didn't know where the water came from. The bed was very comfy, and the bedroom could use some dark drapers; in two of the bedrooms, the light from outside was too bright; that looked like it was daylight, and in one of the bedrooms, it looked like there was a hole in the floor and it was over by the rug, we were afraid to lift the carpet, and my find some critters. There was a lovely patio with plenty of space, but it needed to be furnished, and it didn't have the welcome vibe; there was a dead rat in the corner, and it was not safe for anyone. The bathroom was nice and clean.
It was a nice space. However in the basement , walk thru clutter and storage . I thought we had the whole property. It was only the basement apartment.
The lively campus of City College of New York, the expansion of Columbia University, and Riverbank State Park bring Hamilton Heights to life. From rustic Gothic buildings, to smart Romanesque arches, to intricate terracotta details, there is a fusion of many architectural styles here. The serenity of the sloping parks and the cacophony in the street stalls invites one to spend the evening out exploring. This area is well connected to the rest of Manhattan by the 1, A, B, C, and D Subway lines.
