I’m giving this 2 stars only because Joel was very attentive during my time here. However, I ended up taking a hotel for the last 2 nights of the stay. It was not comfortable. I get it: you get what you pay for. However, I’ve done a stay in TJ before for a similar price and didn’t have as many issues. I recommend that these issues get fixed before the unit continues to get rented out. I’ll start with the positives: - shower is very nice - couch and TV are also nice - great location - Joel was very attentive while I was there - Joel let me check in early For the challenges: 1. The biggest problem I ran into was the make-shift clothes hanger right next to the bed. It’s made from metal pipes. That’s fine, except the edges of the pipes were not sanded down. While getting out of the bed, I scraped my thigh against the pipe and started bleeding immediately. Luckily I had a first aid kit and it didn’t appear to serious, but I did have to put pressure on my wound for a while. This is not acceptable. Glad I had alcohol and bandages. 2. The toilet. Not sure if it’s just common plumbing in the area or what. The toilet got clogged. That’s on me. Typically the water just rises a bit, you grab a plunger, end of story. Not the case here. The water kept rising and overflowed out of the toilet, covering most of the restroom and some of the living room. I had to use all of the towels in the restroom to mitigate the spill. Did not know where the plunger was. Come to find out it was outside. I’ll give Joel props, he did come and clean the spill up. Still, did not make the stay any more comfortable. 3. Heat. Non-existent except for a small area heater. Joel provided another one, which helped while sleeping… but it was not comfortable and I had to layer up while inside. 4. Wi-fi. Very slow. Was not able to do computer work while present. Worked okay for YouTube (though not great). 5. Overall cleanliness: only thing here was that a) the dishes provided we greasy and needed to be rewashed and b) the blankets had deep brown stains in them. Asked Joel if he had others but didn’t receive them. 6. There were holes in the wall. A big one in a corner opposite of the couch where daylight is visible and a rat could easily get in. I ended up stuffing paper towels there, which helped with the draft. While exercising, I also noticed daylight peaking in through the floor on the same wall. Not fun. I’d advise Joel to pull this listing until he can address these things. Hey maybe plumbing is plumbing, maybe the internet is what it is, but everything else is totally within reason. I like Joel’s vision, nice guy, and he did his best. I just wish some of that energy was present for the preparation, not just us handling stuff in the moment.

Joel's place is a little gem.. comfortable bed and the best shower ANYWHERE! Joel is attentive, super-friendly, very helpful and totally knowledgeable about Tijuana. You won't be disappointed.
